Star Reports on Creation of the Anti-democratic Loser Caucus
Today's Kansas City Star reports today on the informal creation of a group of individuals who freely admit their belief 75.9% that of Missouri's voters are idiots whose involvement in the democratic process should be disregarded. To be known henceforth as "The Anti-democratic Loser Caucus", this group is so named because its members --having been on the wrong side of the landslide passage of a minimum wage initiative that will index the wage to inflation-- are losers. Those losers now seek to dissolve the results --by urging legislative repeal of inflation indexing-- of the democratic process through which their loss was suffered.
Tim Hoover of the Star writes...
Business groups are considering asking Missouri lawmakers to remove
the language in Proposition B that contains the inflationary index.“I think that indexing will be a terrible thing for the Missouri
economy in the next few years,†said Brad Jones, Missouri state
director for the National Federation of Independent Businesses.
...and later allows Sen. John Loudon to expound upon his support for the anti-democratic stance explained earlier by Jones:
“I’d consider it (legislation addressing the index),†Loudon said...
With his comments, Loudon makes a successful play for inclusion among the select few responsible for trying to undo the will of the people just days after the people spoke it. Congratulations Senator. Founding Fathers of the Anti-democratic Loser Caucus include:
Brad Jones, National Federation of Independent Business
Sen. John Loudon, Republican (Loudon is also a founding member of the Got-My-Law-Degree-At-Online-Diploma-Mill Caucus)
Gary Marble, Associated Industries of Missouri
John Pelzer, Missouri Restaurant Association
Can anyone explain who these people think they are? 3 of 4 voters just spoke emphatically in favor of a minimum wage indexed to inflation, yet the mopes listed above want to wipe that away without a moment's pause. Guess the NFIB and AIM don't really give two shakes about any of your votes, huh Missouri?
Just to give this a bit of context, consider the 2004 vote on a ballot iniative outlawing gay marriage. That initiative passed with 70.6% of the vote --a considerably smaller mandate than the 75.9% received by the minimum wage raise and inflation indexing on this year's ballot. In terms of raw vote, the minimum wage indexing issue received in excess of a half-million more votes than the ban on gay marriage did.
While the gay marriage vote was on a constitutional amendment which couldn't have been reversed by legislation, imagine the outrage that would have arisen had legislators started talking about support for repealing that policy in the week following that election. This time, these Republicans and GOP supporters have decided that's precisely the sort of fight they want to pick. Missourians should remind the Anti-democratic Loser Caucus that our votes and our voices still count.
