Just What Is John Ashcroft Doing for All That Money?
So New Jersey U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie is sending former Attorney General John Ashcroft a $750,000 monthly fee plus $895 per hour. Ashcroft must be providing quite good service.
No word on whether Christie is also arranging Ashcroft's train tickets to Washington and setting him up with a suite at the Mayflower.

Good Picture
I'm sure whatever Governor-Senator-General Ashcroft is getting paid, he's worth every penny. Being a fiscal conservative who wants to make sure every tax dollar is spent wisely, he would never use his former positions to get rich off citizens. That would be wasting taxpayers' hard earned money. It's their money after all, not the government's. So if he's not worth what he's getting paid he'd be stealing from the very people he tried to protect from tax-increasing, free-spending liberals.
Surely, Governor-Senator-General would never get rich from taxes. It would go against his basic principles as a man of God, low taxes and fiscal conservative spending.
Point taken
Far be it from me to defend Ashcroft, but it is only fair to point out that Ashcroft's big payday isn't coming from taxpayers, precisely. Taxpayers did, however, bankroll the prosecution which led to the settlement from which he's now getting fat.
The firm who he's be monitoring is paying the money, but that arrangement was set up by the taxpayer-funded United States Attorney's office in New Jersey. It was arranged by a U.S. Attorney who used to report to Ashcroft back when he was serving as Bush's Attorney General. A good deal for John, no doubt.
That's a Load Off My Mind
Thanks, Howard, for the clarification. I knew that the Governor-Senator-General couldn't fleece taxpayers and foolishly waste their money.
