Kinder and Bond in fight for control of Missouri GOP

Senator Kit Bond (R-Wild Turkey) and Peter "Every Other Dollar Counts" Kinder are reportedly in a pitched fight for control of the Missouri Republican Party.

According to the KY3 Political notebook, Kinder is backing long-time Emerson aide Lloyd Smith.  Bond is backing former State House Speaker Catherine Hanaway

Some state house observers are wondering why Kinder would opposed Hanaway.  After all, the two joined forces to try to spend taxpayer money on a new Cardinal's stadium.  Story Continued »

He is also the only member of Nixon's team to have his likeness cast in bronze, celebrating his leadership in the founding of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Story Continued »

Nixon offers bi-partisanship

Jay Nixon today reached across the party aisle and met with GOP and Democratic legislative leaders.  Here's an excerpt from PD coverage:

In his first news conference in Jefferson City as the governor-elect, Jay Nixon adopted a purple tone, literally and figuratively.

Wearing a purple tie and surrounded by Republican leaders on his right and Democratic leaders on his left, Nixon told the press that he and his fellow legislative leaders would work together on “shared principles.”

That's the right way, Jay.  Story Continued »

During the depth of a recession, Peter Kinder is diverting state job creation money for "official" Tour of Missouri shot glasses, no doubt made in China.

Kinder Economic Plan: Throw a flashy party for foreigners, let them bring their bikes, have taxpayers pay for it

Today's PD column from Jo Mannies has Peter Kinder outlining his "Let them eat cake" economic plan for Missouri.  Here it is in a nutshell:

  • For one solid week, throw a big flashy party for foreigners with bikes
  • Have them ride through Missouri towns real fast
  • Throw a GOP fundraiser or two at the same time
  • Pay for the whole thing by diverting state job creation money from real job creation
  • In a year, pay off the red-ink from the party by diverting more job creation money  Story Continued »

Blunt legacy: A bike race?

Someday soon, Matt Blunt will sit for his official gubernatorial portrait, to be displayed in perpetuity in the State Capitol.

Judging from his recent pronouncements, the rendering will likely include Matt Blunt... wearing biking shorts.

Blunt has been telling anyone who will listen just how great the taxpayer funded Tour of Missouri bike race is.

And for this public policy accomplishment alone, Blunt has called on the gubernatorial candidates to embrace his legacy.

One things for sure.  No one ever accused Matt Blunt of using performance enhancing substances.  Story Continued »
