Torture Confirmed!!

New Report reveals abuse/torture of detainees. "The report is prefaced by retired U.S. Major Gen. Antonio Taguba, who led the Army's investigation into the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal in 2003. There is no longer any doubt that the current administration committed war crimes," Taguba says. "The only question is whether those who ordered torture will be held to account." A Talent for Hypocrisy

It is interesting that Senator Talent decided to return $3,000 in campaign donations from indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. According to his spokesman the money was returned because ‘…the evidence on its face strongly suggests that he’s guilty of something.’ At the same time Senator Talent is keeping $5,000.00 given by indicted Tom DeLay’s PAC and does not plan to return this money because "He’s not ready to presume (DeLay’s) innocent (and) he’s not ready to presume he’s guilty. He wants to give the process a chance." Apparently Senator Talent picks and chooses what cases are allowed to have the benefit of being decided by a court of law and has already decided upon the innocence and guilt of the individuals in both cases. Does this strike anyone else as a classic example of hypocrisy?

Who does Kit Bond Represent?

I noticed that our senior U.S. Senator from MO must be having a difficult time making a living or trying to make ends meet.  That surely is the reason that Senator Kit Bond was one of only six senators that voted against freezing salaries for members of Congress. He justified his against the freeze by telling the New York Times "not everyone in the Senate is a multimillionaire." It must be very difficult to get by on only $162,100.00 per year. (His monthly salary exceeds my annual income)  And I thought he was there to protect the interests of Missourians and not the welfare of his peers.
It appears that he is becoming increasingly out of touch with the true values of his Missouri constituents.  Story Continued »

The following letter was sent to the Governor's office on Februrary 9th. As of this date no reply has been forthcoming.

Dear Governor Blunt:

I am writing in regards to inquiries that I have received from my constituents regarding your proposed budget. I serve as a member of the Slater City Council and would like some clarification regarding the impact your proposals will have on these citizens’ lives. Since most of the programs they are concerned with involve state agencies and funding, I thought it best to contact you so that I might be able to give my constituents the correct information.
