Watch this Clip from "Boston-Legal": Its What our Democratic Leaders Need to be Saying!
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Wed, 03/22/2006 - 9:29am.Watch this great clip from "Boston'Legal" because it shows what our Democratic leaders need to be saying in Congress. Awesome, powerful, inspiring piece.
I never watched this show before, but after seeing this video on James Spader's Stick It Closing Arguments, I think I will be checking it out in the future. What a great piece of writing and acting! Here's the link:

How the master FDR zinged the Republicans with Charm and Humor
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Mon, 03/06/2006 - 4:09pm.As we all know the elections of 2006 are coming up soon. I love watching old WWII tapes showing the grandmaster FDR at work.
Of special note I think is how Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) would effectively disarm his opponents with his often charming and engaging sense of humor.
How I would love to see some of today's modern Democrat candidates emulate his many fine examples such as the Fala Speech. Read it and smile :>): They don't call FDR great for nothing! - SoaperGirl
The 'Fala Speech'
"These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. Well, of course, I don't resent attacks, and my family doesn't resent attacks, but Fala does resent them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that the Republican fiction writers in Congress and out had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian Islands and had sent a destroyer back to find him--at a cost to the taxpayers of two or three, or eight or twenty million dollars--his Scotch soul was furious. He has not been the same dog since. I am accustomed to hearing malicious falsehoods about myself--such as that old, worm-eaten chestnut that I have represented myself as indispensable. But I think I have a right to resent, to object to libelous statements about my dog."--Sept. 23, 1944, address to the Teamsters Union

Republicans Say the Cutest Things
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Wed, 10/05/2005 - 1:27pm.Below are Republican quotes from when President Clinton committed U.S. Troops to Bosnia:
"You can support the troops but not the president." -Rep Tom DeLay (R-TX)
"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years." -Joe Scarborough (R-FL)
"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life." -Sean Hannity, Fox News

Submitted by SoaperGirl on Thu, 09/22/2005 - 10:29am.Rumor has it these days in Washington, DC circles, that George Bush was caught by First Lady Laura taking a swig of booze at the liquor cabinet. Said she, "Its Jim Beam or me!".
The talk is that on Air America, among certain folks, are of the belief that George is drinking again or still or even snorting nose candy due to all the political fallout from Katrina.
Now, I don't know, and this is only speculation, but I'm thinking this could be something George has been doing for sometime which could account for his many "bushisms", facial tics and other strange behaviors observed on occasion by the public.

The More Things Change...
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Tue, 09/06/2005 - 4:17pm.The following is a fascinating movie (although it could be argued as flawed and inaccurate in its logic) review of "The Grapes of Wrath" still seems to have some resonating themes that maybe seen as applicable today.
The More Things Change..., 21 February 2002
Author: Hans Boxer (hansboxer@lycos.com)
The amazing thing about this film, besides the acting, script, directing, lighting, etc., is how clear it is about class exploitation.
The sharecroppers are being kicked off their land, but no one seems to at fault. When the company man is questioned he says, "It's not my fault, I'm only doing what the bank tells me to do." Farmer: "Well, I'll go to the bank." Company Man: "Well, it ain't his fault. He's just doing his job." Sharecropper: "Well, whose fault is it?" "Brother, I wish I knew."

Claire McCaskill Will she, or won’t she?
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Wed, 08/24/2005 - 1:11pm.This editorial pretty much says the way I feel about Claire's options at this point: Good arguments can be made for each of them - but this, IMHO, offers the best advice on what I'd like to see happen in the future - A rematch against Blunt!
SoaperGirl
TRIBUNE'S VIEW
Claire McCaskill Will she, or won’t she?
State Auditor Claire McCaskill faces a political, and perhaps a personal, dilemma. She can remain safely in her current office, or she can answer the call of her Democrat partisans to run for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican Jim Talent in 2008. Or, seldom mentioned, she could run against Gov. Matt Blunt when he tries for a second term in 2008.

Blunt, the GOP and its Minions Are Toast!!!!
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Tue, 08/23/2005 - 8:42am.As I read here and elsewhere yesterday, Ameren UE is proposing another rate hike of possibly up to 26% this winter...this morning I went to fill up my dinky little 13 gallon economy car (still had over a quarter tank of gas) - spent over $20.00 and still failed to fill 'er up. Ugh!
This summer even during the hottest dog days, my AC spent more time off than on and I still paid the highest electric bill to date. All the while I'm hearing about even higher electricity rates coming up shortly and seeing soaring gasoline prices! There's no end in sight!
All the while the repugs are so gosh darn friendly to big business. Anything goes to help business. Nevermind the people, their problems and struggles. I don't know how much more "friendliness" I can stand!

Matt Blunt Sucks Up to Michigan-Based PAC Group Intent on Controlling Missouri Education
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Tue, 08/09/2005 - 1:45pm.Matt Blunt is selling out Missouri Education again!
The erronously named Michigan based All Children Matter PAC (not to this rotten bunch!) in bed with Gov. Matt Blunt is becoming a political power in Missouri pushing policies such as vouchers, tuition tax credits and charter schools.
The purpose of which appears to intended to drain money from struggling public schools in Missouri leaving is children who remain behind with poorer education prospects thereby downgrading education in Missouri even further.
Some of the dirty politics these people directed in Missouri include $196,252 spent on state-wide radio ads blasting Blunt's Democratic gubernatorial opponent, Claire McCaskill. Blunt owes these people big-time and they're going to make sure he pays up!

Democrats Have Most to Gain if Roe is Reversed
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Wed, 07/27/2005 - 12:20pm.This is a great time for Democrats to stand their ground firmly on the pro-choice side in the Supreme Court nomination process and in the face of bills outlawing abortion!
Think about it!
In today's Columbia Missourian on page 3A, they ran a byline of Michael Hill of the Baltimore Sun.
According to Thomas F. Schaller, Associate Professor of political science at the University of Maryland:
"The last thing the Republicans want nationally is for Roe V. Wade to be overturned."
In fact, it is the Democrats who may even want to force the Republicans to vote on outlawing abortion as well as confirming John Roberts! It could work to our advantage!

If there were a political award for excellence in the pot calling the kettle black, picking a winner in Missouri this year would be a piece of cake.
Playing the pot is Roy Temple.
Giving the performance of his life as the kettle is Gov. Matt Blunt.
Meanwhile, Missouri taxpayers of all party affiliations are left simmering.

Mogop Weeping and Whining Over Fired Up, Sen. Graham and Rep. Harris
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Thu, 07/14/2005 - 12:24pm.Every once in a while for laughs, I like to check in on the mopgops website to see what two-faced hypocritical moanings they are up now. Its hysterically funny.
Today is a real hoot! They are weeping and whining over the Fired Up blogspot, especially over Jefferson Thomas's postings over the weekend as well as my own favorite state guys in office..the awesome and amazing Sen. Chuck Graham & Rep. Jeff Harris.
I'm not going to go into any details (of course, the lies and exaggerations are flying thick and fast in true GOP smear campaign - propaganda style.)
I'll let you check it all out for your own amusement. Boy are they desperate and it shows!
Story Continued »Bush Mum on Karl Rove
Submitted by SoaperGirl on Wed, 07/13/2005 - 3:57pm.I was looking at the CNN web site a while ago watching Bush at a meeting and being interviewed by reporters.
At the mention of the Plame scandal, Bush starts looking down at his hands almost like he's ashamed or contrite about something (not happening with this guy I realize).
Anyway, I find it fascinating that Bush is NOT jumping up to defend his best pal and buddy Rove. Nor is he reassuring of his supposed continuing confidence in Rove's innocence.
No, he's not going to "pre-judge" Rove before the White House investigation is concluded Bush says.
Only when he starts talking about the media coverage does he begin his usual smirking, winking and grinning at the camera routine.
