Deadeye Steelman
Submitted by TeresaJ on Sat, 05/31/2008 - 1:33pm.How come no coverage on SS's Annie Oakley look-alike stunt turning purchasing a rifle for her 13 year old into a photo op?

Democrats and Defining "Blackness"
Submitted by TeresaJ on Sat, 05/24/2008 - 8:22pm.I have a dear friend of mixed ethnic heritage-- white, black, and American Indian. Notice, I said "ethnic" and not racial, as I sincerely believe there is only one race (human). She was raised Catholic, in a solid working class neighborhood, is married to a wonderful man, has grown sons and a number of grandchildren.
Yet, I observed as her co-worker, everyone else ignored her mixed background, and pegged her as "black" and expected her to fit their cultural stereotype of the "black American" which she most assuredly does not.

Taum Sauk Distractions
Submitted by TeresaJ on Fri, 02/09/2007 - 1:06am.Fourteen months ago, the citizenry was up in arms over the destruction of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park by the failure of the Upper Taum Sauk reservoir. On the 5th of February, Ameren made official what some have suspected for some time--they intend to rebuild the reservoir.Ameren news release
Instead of focusing attention on the engineering of this project, the media is spilling all their ink on the Jefferson City sideshow of Blunt-Nixon et al and changes of venue for the lawsuit (lawsuits?) and what the state wants from Ameren, and what they are likely to get--while little to no progress is being made at remediating the park, informing the public about the specifics of the rebuild proposal. Local Reynolds county sources are doing a better job of reporting what is happening on the ground than the big city dailies.
Black River News
How do we refocus the major media on the important part of this story, and off of the fellows in clown suits? After all, even if the campground is moved, people are still going to (hopefully someday) be picnicking and swimming in that East Fork valley again.

Willard Romney? I went looking to find out what sort of a person would name their kid, or prefer for themselves, Mitt. The only Mitt I know is a catcher's mitt. And that's when I found out his name really was Willard.
So we have Matt and Mitt. Is there a Mutt out there, too? Nah. Only Willard.
