A Picture Says a Thousand Words

Connerly’s Fraudsters Pull Out of Oklahoma...Will They Do the Same in Missouri?

This past Friday, supporters of the so-called “Civil Rights Initiative” measure to ban affirmative action programs in Oklahoma withdrew their petition, so Oklahoma voters will not vote on the issue in November.

California millionaire Ward Connerly had targeted Oklahoma (and Missouri) for 2008 as part of a long-term national strategy to eliminate education and business opportunities for women and minorities state by state.

From the Tulsa World:

“The Secretary of State's Office counted 141,184 signatures on the petition but found a large number of duplicate names and addresses.”

Could it be…more fraud from Connerly's group?

Future Presidents?

Bill McClellan today had a semi-amusing column about who will be the next presidential candidate from Missouri. It mentions Jay Nixon, Claire McCaskill, and Robin Carnahan on the Dem side.  Matt Blunt, Chris Koster (???), and Catherine Hanaway on the Repub side.

McClellan isn't the only one who has mentioned McCaskill or Carnahan and "president" in the same sentence.  The Huffington Post has an article from Friday about McCaskill which likens her to Missouri's favorite son and only president Harry Truman.

And, Fired Up! readers will remember that USA Today and the Kansas City Star have both mentioned SOS Robin Carnahan as a rising star with presidential potential.  Story Continued »

Ashcroft/Gonzalez /Schlozman's Civil Rights Division Only Went After Democratic Officials?

New York Times on the Schloz and Missouri

U.S. Attorneys, Reloaded

...From the facts available, it looks like a main reason for installing Mr. Schlozman was to help Republicans win a pivotal Missouri Senate race...

...A single Senate campaign may not seem that important. But Missouri’s race was among the nation’s closest, and if Mr. Talent had won, the Republicans would have kept their Senate majority. The American people have a right to know whether Mr. Schlozman was sent on his brief assignment in Missouri to pursue justice, or to affect the outcome of an election.

If at first you don’t succeed (at disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of people), try, try again?

Despite already wasting an entire pathetic legislative session on one failed, unconstitutional proposal to make it harder for people to vote, Delbert Scott seems bound and determined to waste more of Missouri’s taxpayers’ time on dredging up the photo ID to vote issue again.

Rumor has it that Delbert is doing this because Delbert really wants to be Secretary of State…Perhaps he doesn’t realize that destroying fair elections in Missouri by prohibiting eligible voters from voting isn’t the best positioning for one who would like to be our chief elections official.

Blunt Taps Right-Wing Republican with Long History of Extreme Partisanship to Serve as Curator

JEFFERSON CITYGov. Matt Blunt today announced he will appoint Warren K. Erdman (R!!!!), of Kansas City, to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

Besides being a huge Republican donor and strategist, Erdman served as co-chair of the highly criticized, partisan, and failed Missouri Government Review Commission.

I Support Josh. You Support Josh. So Should Jim Talent. Tell Him.

After all the campaign's dirty tricks in 2004, I thought I had seen it all. Was I ever wrong. Turns out the Swift Boat Veterans could have learned a thing or two about ruthlessness from Missouri Senator Jim Talent.

I read today about Jim Talent's efforts to slander and demonize a young veteran of the war in Iraq, a man named Josh Lansdale. That young man's only transgression, the act for which Jim Talent thinks he should be publicly branded as a liar, was that he fought bravely in the war on terror and then spoke out at home about the mistreatment of veterans.

Ike Skelton on national security

A Species Yet Not Extinct
Some people say more troops—50,000 more—should be sent to Iraq. Ike Skelton says: 'Oh, we have the troops. But are they ready? No.'

By George F. Will
Newsweek

Oct. 2, 2006 issue - Republicans regret, or say they do, that there are no more "Truman Democrats"—Democrats as hardheaded about national security as was the president who formulated the cold-war policy of containment. That regret must amuse the gangly, soft-spoken 15-term congressman from Truman country—western Missouri, where they pronounce it "Massouruh." If Democrats capture the House in November, Ike Skelton will become chairman of the Armed Services Committee. The Republicans might wish there were one fewer Truman Democrat...

“Fraud” and Photo ID Fatigue? Don't Tune Out Just Yet.

Jefferson City News Tribune’s Bob Watson’s article, “One way or another, the Voter ID battle will be settled next month” is more interesting than its title lets on. Although Watson does not make his own conclusions within his story – he instead leaves that to his readers – he does lay out a pretty decent timeline of events and facts that would lead any reasonable reader to determine that the idea election fraud by voters in Missouri is just that: a fraud.

Missouri Leads Nation in Disenfranchising Voters

Missouri is Featured, Yet Again, in a National Story on Voter Suppression

From PBS:

Across the nation, states have enacted new laws supposedly designed to prevent voter fraud and avoid election-day debacles. But qualified voters may also be left out in the cold, especially minorities, the poor, the elderly and the disabled.

This week NOW looks at several states where these new rules may keep voters away from the polls in November.

Watch this important story here:

Finally, someone gets it right. (Way to go, Kansas City Star)

The Kansas City Star editorial board deserves hearty congratulations for being the first media outlet in years to debunk the Missouri election fraud myth.

Photo ID to Vote is again struck down in Georgia

The Republican legislature and governor in the state of Georgia have been repeatedly trying to impose an unconstitutional photo ID voting requirement on their citizens.  (sound familiar? It's almost as if there is a  right-wing national photo ID strategy to suppress the vote under the pretense of "increasing voter confidence"...nah, that couldn't be...)
Once again, the Georgia Repub's photo ID scheme has been blocked in court.
Here are some excerpts from the New York Times:
July 8, 2006

Judge Blocks Requirement in Georgia for Voter ID

ATLANTA, July 7 — For the second time, a judge has blocked a Republican-sponsored effort to require Georgia voters to present government-issued photo identification cards before they can cast a ballot.
