Blunt Jets to Palm Beach for Horowitz's Ultra-Rightwing Freakshow
While the rest of Missouri was pondering a puzzling contract extension and packing our Tiger gear in back the closet until next year, Governor Blunt spent this past weekend in Palm Beach, Florida with some of the nation's most reactionary kooks at a "Restoration Weekend" sponsored by nutcase David Horowitz.
Conservative bloggers touted guests of note at Horowitz's event (emphasis mine):
Some of the "Names" who'll be at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida include Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, David Horowitz, Gov. Matt Blunt, Cong. Tom Tancredo, Melanie Morgan, Mark Levin, Tammy Bruce, Melanie Phillips, Andrew McCarthy, and our host Buzz Patterson.
In case some of these names are unfamiliar, here's the quick skinny on a few of them... Rush Limbaugh is an admitted prescription pill addict and probable underage sex-tourist; Ann Coulter is a conservative commentator and election fraudster; delusional presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo has been called "the Republicans' Al Sharpton"; and Tammy Bruce has posited that Rosa Parks, "pushed us into the maze of Thought Police totalitarianism that we face today." Nice bunch of folks to hang around with for the weekend. I hope the Governor's shots are current.
Presumably, Blunt attended the event to get a better feel for why American voters rejected the GOP agenda in the midterm elections and for hints on how to push more effectively a far-outside-the-mainstream agenda. But as a practical matter, Blunt's attendance serves to legitimize and endorse implicitly the ramblings of creeps like Horowitz, who has at various points claimed that Democrats are "apologists for terrorists" and that "leftists support Hezbollah."
So, some questions to mull during the long, fruitless wait for the media to report on the Governor's communion with the ideological sons (and daughters) of cryptofascism... Does Matt Blunt think that Democrats are "apologists for terrorists" too, or is does he just like to pal around with folks like Horowitz who can heft the hatchet for him?
Did Blunt --a supporter of the Stem Cell cures initiative-- have a nice conversation in Palm Beach with Rush Limbaugh about Michael J. Fox's meds?
Can the Missouri press corps ask the Governor about whether he shares the extreme views of the people with whom he headlined the Horowitz event?

Breakers is a nice place to visit during the holidays.
I understand that Breakers is a nice place to visit during the holidays. It is, however, very expensive. How does Matt afford to stay there on the Governor's salary? Questions, just who is footing his bill? Horowitz? Patterson? Somebody else? Just what are the guidelines for Missouri elected officials in such circumstances?
I wonder if Rush, a nice Missouri Boy
