I listened to Sarah Palin’s breathless Farewell Address set off by tweeting birds and cooing babies. I wish the speech had been set off by commas; I was exhausted by the pace.

What a slipshod affair it’s been between “Sparky” Sanford and his Argentine “soul mate.” This week the plot thickened in a chintzy Appalachian soap opera.

Roy Blunt: Returning to the Scene of the Crime

According to The Hill, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-K Street) will be spending the weekend with special interest lobbyists in Hot Springs, VA.

Nope, it's not a family outing with Abby, Andy, and Amy.  It's a fundraiser for a leadership PAC in the dishonorable tradition of ARMPAC and ROYB:

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), along with Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), will host a tennis and golf fundraiser at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va., this weekend to launch Goodlatte’s new political action committee, the Good Fund.

Raising money while playing tennis or golf, hunting or fishing, or watching professional sports at an upscale resort with a contingent of corporate lobbyists is not unusual.

It's definitely not unusual for Blunt.  Blunt has often co-sponsored or attended similar events with embattled Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Fired Up! readers will recall that Hot Springs, VA was the scene of the crime where Westar executives paid $25,000 for access to House leadership and a special provision in the energy bill.

In court documents obtained by The Dallas Morning News, Westar officials said after they made the donation, two company executives attended a June 2002 golf outing with DeLay and two top aides at The Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Va.

Rep. Blunt and Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) were assigned to carry the water for Westar and their special provision.

Any chance...

...that Congressmen Blunt and Goodlatte will have a beautiful bouquet waiting for them when they reach the resort?

From what I hear, it's been known to happen...
