Editorial Cartoon: Blunt's Highway Patrol II

Wow so I guess you assume everyone has a way to prove

they are citizens? I don't. I only have a drivers license and that doesn't prove citizenship. So I guess I can be taken in and hassled for a few hours (or days) if a cop feels like it. Gee thanks, Matt! Yep, "PAPERS PLEASE!!" will be heard all over the state now! And if you don't have a problem with THAT, then I don't really know what to say. But don't worry. In a few years we will all have those RFD chips implanted in our bodies so the cops won't need to ask for our papers!

Immigration: A solution in search of a problem

Great cartoon! Illustrates what a friend said the other day "Blunt's got a solution, too bad we don't have a problem." I am waiting for some of our cracker jack political reporters to point out that Missouri doesn't really have an immigration problem, unless you count all of those Jayhawks who migrate into our state by day and take their tax money out by night. Perhaps Blunt ought to do something about that. This is clearly just election year posturing and that picture is worth 1,000 words.

Jayhawk here

I have worked in MO for 30 years. And I pay taxes in MO. I pay taxes in KS too. Plus I shop in MO. And I pay an earnings tax in KCMO. Now just what tax money am I taking out at night?

Why would anyone Defend Illegal Immigrants?

If you have an authentic Missouri Driver's license or ID issued after January 1, 2005, your license or ID proves you are a legal resident. The Department of Revenue is required to check and note in your computer file if you have shown proof of lawful presence, identity and residence. The only thing that Blunt’s order will allow the Highway Patrol to do is to detain illegals at the Federal government’s expense. These people crossed our border and set up residence knowing that they were violating our laws. Why would anyone on this forum want to protect law violators? The Federal government has not been doing anything about the problem since granting amnesty in 1986 with the promise to legal American citizens that our borders would be secured after amnesty was granted. Twenty years later nothing has been done. Maybe it is time for the States to get involved. Most illegal’s do not have auto insurance but do drive and many drive drunk. Blunt should go one step further and request that a law be passed to remove all tax deductions and taxpayer giveaways to any individual or company that hires an illegal immigrant. The Board of Directors of a Company would be considered the direct employers for that company as well as the corporate entity. Once that is done we would not have illegal immigrants living in our state, wasting our resources that should be utilized on lawful residents

Are you a citizen...

How do you prove that you are a legal citizen, even if you were born and raised in the USofA?  You are not suppose to keep a social security card on your person, so what actually constitutes legal proof of citizenship?  This is going to be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Illegals

You say... "The only thing that Blunt’s order will allow the Highway Patrol to do is to detain illegals at the Federal government’s expense."

So you think the INS will come to Southern Missouri and pick up one illegal.  Think again.   I know of the local sheriff's office one time had a bunch of them and the INS in Kansas City said what do you want us to do come get them....we don't do that, bring them to us.  So they let them go.

I'm afraid it all sizzle and no steak again.  Are illegals considered felons?

If they are why are employers that hire them not prosecuted as harboring a felon?
