Washington Post: Bond's Office Pushed For Graves Firing Over Fee Offices

The Washington Post reports today that in early 2005 Senator Kit Bond's office suggested that former U.S. Attorney Todd Graves should be replaced because of his involvement in Governor Blunt's fee office scandal.

While Bond was pushing for his ouster, the DOJ was issuing letters claiming that Graves had no conflict of interest.

Later, during the height of U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins investigation of Blunt, Bond personally intervened with the White House to get Graves tour of duty extended.

There are more dozens of layers to this, and the politics of it will take a while to unravel.  Suffice it to say that the Graves firing is the most unique case so far, with VERY specific legal and political dynamics.
