GOP Extremism

Quote of the Day

"But given Sinquefield’s wealth, and his willingness to spend it to influence Missouri politics and policy, those ill-timed and inappropriate remarks provided a disturbing glimpse into his thinking."

Brian Nieves Accuses Somebody Else of "Extreme Hatred and Immaturity"

Brian Nieves' latest Facebook rant, preserved here for posterity: "Veterans, Patriots, Members of our Disabled Community as well as any and all reasonable people .... All I ask is for you to read, and see with your own eyes, the extreme HATRED the missourian and the Miller family have spewed about me and then read my reasoned comment that starts out 'Is it Easy to Visit Our Capitol.' When you read the Extreme, Hate Filled Blathering of Mr. Miller who happens to own the missourian, you'll see why our Disabled Veterans and friends who are disabled in general, may never get sufficient parking made available to them. The Extreme Hatred and Immaturity, the downright loathing you'll read in Mr. Miller's attack piece absolutely makes my point! Don't mess with the High and Mighty Press or you will be CRUSHED! I am proud to stand with our Disabled Veterans and I, for one, believe our Disabled Veterans in particular, as well as our disabled community in general, should get the close up parking over the Elite Press! If you agree, let the missourian know! Cancel subscriptions, write letters to the editor etc etc etc..."

Slay Sends Education Advisor to Koch-Funded Session Moderated By Gateway Pundit

How's this for strange bedfellows? Robbyn Wahby, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay's Deputy Chief of Staff and wife of City Democrats Chair Brian Wahby, was on a "School Choice" panel put on this week by the Koch Brothers-funded Americans For Prosperity. The event was moderated by Jim Hoft, the race baiting Gateway Pundit. Her fellow panelists included Dana "drop trou and urinate on dead Afghanis" Loesch and Dick Morris. Yes, that Dick Morris.

The event was a teachers union-bashing propaganda festival, with words of wisdom like this:

Jaco Doesn't Understand That Every Missourian is Fully Employed and Our Budget Situation is Totally Awesome Already

Charles Jaco lets 'er rip: "It's a darn good thing there's almost no unemployment in Missouri that our schools are the nations best, our roads are in superb shape and none of our children live in poverty. Because, if none of that were true, you'd have to wonder why the Missouri legislature is wasting its time on nonsense. But since things are perfect, I guess they can get away with it."

Paul Curtman Still Pursuing Islamophobic Legislation

Rep. Paul Curtman (R-Pacific) isn't giving up on his misguided effort to ban Missouri courts from consulting Sharia law.  Last year, he, Sen. Brian NievesBirther Tim Jones and even Speaker Steve Tilley attached their names to an Islamaphobic proposal written by a hateful man from Arizona named David Yerushalmi.

At the time, TPM reported:

Dr. S.I. Strong, a law professor from the University of Missouri, called the bill a “dangerous exercise” that could potentially open the Missouri court system to complex litigation. She told TPM the bill has a number of inconsistencies and would be difficult to implement.

This year, Curtman lists the legislation as his top legislative priority

P-D: GOP's "Blueprint for Missouri" is a "Blueprint for Collapse"

Tomorrow is the start of Missouri's 2012 legislative session - hold on to your rights!

In a scathing editorial in today's Post-Dispatch, this:

Don't expect much out of 2012 Missouri Legislature

The so-called "Blueprint for Missouri," the agenda of the Republicans who lead the House with an overwhelming majority, is underwhelming to say the least. Were the actual goal to build a better state, it would be a blueprint for collapse.

But building a better state is not the goal. Indeed, the anti-worker, anti-public-school, anti-government agenda is intended to help those Republican lawmakers produce campaign advertisements that tout so-called conservative credentials.

So lawmakers will waste time debating and passing resolutions criticizing the federal government. When much of the nation's growth depends on immigrants, they'll debate making English the state's official language. They'll decry abortions, then do nothing to actually reduce the incidence of unintended pregnancies. They'll talk of being pro-business, then ignore actual business leaders who say what they need is a stronger workforce and better education system.

The Twelve Days of Akin

As Christmas time approaches, it appears many in Congress may indeed receive that well-deserved lump of coal. Whether it’s protecting millionaires from having to pay taxes or cutting the unemployment lifeline for jobless workers, those like Rep. Todd Akin must truly be into the taking rather than the giving spirit of Christmas.

Unfortunately our dear friend Todd Akin has not given Missouri families an opportunity to sing this holiday season with his many questionable and regretful decisions this past year.

With no further delay, I present the “12 Days of Akin” holiday carol, sure to warm the hearts of the many without a payroll tax cut or at risk of losing their jobless benefits this year.

The 12 Days of Akin”

What You Need to Know About Today's Vote

KCTV sums it up:

HOUSE DECISION WOULD RAISE YOUR TAXES

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -The U.S. House of Representatives failed to take action Tuesday to extend the payroll tax cuts and unemployment benefits for millions.

The House rejected a two-month extension to 160 million Americans on their payroll taxes. This means if you made $50,000 annually then you'll pay about $1,000 more in taxes in 2012.

The Senate-approved bill would have allowed millions of unemployed Americans to continue receiving jobless benefits.

Birther Tim Thinks Obama "Organized" Yesterday's Occupy Wall Street Actions

Did you know that our Kenyan Usurper was behind yesterday's Occupy Wall Street actions in New York? Some dude who works for Fox News does, and Speaker-Elect Tim Jones does too.

"President Obama organized this community of thugs," Todd Starnes and Jones say.

Man Who Wants to Eliminate Medicare Supports Man Who Wants to Eliminate Medicare

UPDATE: It turns out that Paul Ryan hasn't endorsed Todd Akin, even though Akin's political director explicitly promoted Ryan's support as an endorsement. Ryan says he was only praising Akin's work helping craft the budget to eliminate Medicare as we know it.

Todd Akin thinks Paul Ryan is dreamy

Politico: "Missouri Democrats no longer have to worry about branding Rep. Todd Akin as for 'the Ryan plan.' He's now actually Paul Ryan's candidate."

Crazy Eddie Accuses Speaker Tilley and Birther Tim of 'Betrayal'

Ed Martin is trying to find votes for his flailing Congressional campaign with fringe Missouri Right to Life supporters:

In my role as president of Missouri Roundtable for Life, I have seen attacks on life in the Missouri legislature but nothing like this [MOSIRA]. To see Jay Nixon sign such a law is infuriating, though unsurprising given he would not even sign a ban on partial birth abortion. To see him sign a bill with Republican support is shocking. The Republicans who sent this bill to Jay Nixon are betraying years of pro-life efforts.

Brian Nieves Promises To Be Less Tolerant, Because Glenn Beck Says So

Senator Brian Nieves continues his campaign to restore dignity and honor to the Missouri State Senate.

The Absurd State of GOP Politics

John Darkow's latest in The Tribune:

Sinquefield: "Significant Advertising Campaign" for State Bankrupting Crusade to Begin Soon

In today's Jerry Berger post from St. Louis Magazine:

In his family suite [Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome], Rex Sinquefield with his wife, Jeanne, discussed his crusade to let voters decide whether to replace Missouri individual and corporate income taxes with higher sales taxes. "In a few weeks, we'll begin running a significant advertising campaign in southwest Missouri," he said.

How much do you think Rex will have to spend to get public support for extreme proposals to devastate Missouri's state budget and economy to a level at which it won't shorten the careers of the politicians on his payroll?

Once Again John Danforth Condemns Extremism While Supporting Extremists

John Danforth has repeatedly expressed his desire for bipartisan compromise in Washington. In a new piece for Politico, he writes

Compromise, the capacity to work out our differences, is the essential element of workable politics. Compromise was made essential by the framers of our Constitution who created a system of checks and balances so that each side of an issue is unlikely to get everything it wants. In today’s world, when the extremes demand pure ideology, compromise is difficult without rebuilding the center.

Danforth has a history of being a voice for the ever-diminishing moderate center of the Republican Party. This is a good thing. But despite his talk about finding politicians willing to work on finding common ground, he has thrown his support behind some of the most divisive candidates Missouri has to offer.

Take Ed Martin for instance. Danforth supported him in his 2010 Congressional race. Ed likes to call elected officials "the devil" and thinks Barack Obama wants to keep people from being saved by Jesus Christ. And he really likes to suggest that if government gets control of health care, bureaucrats will start killing old people.

Senator Danforth has also thrown his support behind Peter Kinder. Lost in the recent Kinder-related drama is the fact that Peter Kinder is an extremist. (Unless most Missourians agree that there is "great prevalence of virulent anti-Semitism from the Left" and an"astonishing explosion of lefty Jew hatred." Not to mention that he also thinks government provided heath care would lead to bureaucrats using death panels to decide who lives and dies.)

Just as Orly Taitz Predicted: House GOP Selects Birther Tim to be Speaker-Elect

Missouri's House Republicans tonight selected Tim Jones to be their Speaker Elect.

Jones is an unapologetic birther who sued Barack Obama in federal court with Orly Taitz, Cynthia Davis and a few dozen other lunatics from around the country in 2009, alleging that Obama is an illegal immigrant from Kenya who has also committed all sorts of other crimes.  Jones also believes the Missouri Hospital Association is a "Marxist" organization that wants to "screw Missouri voters." He is a hot head who had to be physically restrained by his own colleagues on the House Floor in 2010. He believes global warming is "voodoo science." He believes that Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare are unconstitutional. He also has a demonstrated record of referring to fellow Republican legislators as "terrorists" when they don't do what he likes.

So obviously, Birther Tim is a great choice. Clearly, the man has the judgment, maturity and skills to be an amazing Speaker.

In celebration of this positive development, we bring you once again a November 2010 blog post by Orly Taitz celebrating Jones' leadership in the Missouri General Assembly

GREAT NEWS! ONE OF MY CLIENTS IN ELIGIBILITY CASE, PROMINENT MO ATTORNEY TIMOTHY JONES BECOME THE SPEKER OF MO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. PLEASE, CONTACT HIM AND DEMAND THAT HE BRINGS THIS ISSUE TO THE FLOOR OF THE STATE HOUSE OF REP-S.
