MO GOP

Jack Goodman to run against Nixon??

I've been hearing this over and over for the past several weeks.

With the Mo-7th CD Jack Goodman is currently polling in first, but is not showing us a surge in the polls. Maybe too early but with Tim Davis having a lock on the nomination. I'm curious to see who will face off with him in November.

For several weeks now, I've been hearing rumors that Mo GOP as well as others in the opposition are pressing him to run against Jay Nixon in 2012 and will start to Campaign within a year and that his Congressional run is just basic training for the start.

Does this mean Nodler is the pick? PA--LEZE. This will be easy then..

Not Sure How Outraged MO Republicans Can Get About This...

Missouri Republican Party Communications Director Jon Prouty and Rep. Scott Dieckhaus(R-Washington) have both tweeted their outrage today with comments from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who said opponents of health care reform are on the wrong side of history, like opponents of women's suffrage, civil rights for minorities and abolishing slavery. (Reid's full quote may be found here.)

While it's dicey to make this sort of historical analogy, outraged Republicans might consider that Reid's words indict former Democratic leaders as much as – and maybe more than – Republican leaders.

Prouty, Diekhaus and their Missouri Republican colleagues should also remember their complete lack of outrage regarding comments from Rep. Rob Schaaf (R-St. Joseph) who said that government health care for low-income children isn't like slavery – it is slavery.

Flashback: AP Exposes How Blunt and DeLay "Swapped Donations Between Secretive Groups"

Four years ago today, the Associated Press published a comprehensive breakdown of the collaboration between Roy Blunt and Tom DeLay to move campaign cash between "secretive" committees.

Tom DeLay deliberately raised more money than he needed to throw parties at the 2000 presidential convention, then diverted some of the excess to longtime ally Roy Blunt — now occupying DeLay's former post as House Majority Leader — through a series of donations that benefited both men’s causes.

When the financial carousel stopped, DeLay’s private charity, the consulting firm that employed DeLay’s wife and the Missouri campaign of Blunt’s son all ended up with money, according to campaign documents reviewed by The Associated Press.

Jack Abramoff, a Washington lobbyist recently charged in an ongoing federal corruption and fraud investigation, and Jim Ellis, the DeLay fundraiser indicted with his boss last week in Texas, also came into the picture.

More Evidence of a Broken System

Fee offices were awarded to Matt Blunt appointees in Bowling Green, Caruthersville and Cuba today.

When will we get a system that evaluates fee office bids without considering political affiliations?

MOGOP Dishonesty About Health Care Reform Proposals

Press releases from the Missouri GOP would probably be a lot more persuasive if they didn't contain false accusations. The party posted a pair of releases this afternoon (here and here) with manifestly false information about the health care reform proposals being considered in Congress. Given the barrage of misinformation about Congressional health care proposals from Republican and conservative opponents, it seems appropriate to point out these falsehoods.  Consider this statement:

[Robin] Carnahan told KY3 that she was open to a so-called "public option" for health care—a proposal that would raise costs, ration care, limit access and force every American into the same government-run plan.

This is just wrong. Under President Obama's proposal and the legislation being considered by Congress, people who like their existing coverage would be able to keep it. Moreover, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the House proposal would actually increase the participation in private insurance plans.

MO GOP: "Curses, Foiled Again"

Today's botched attempt by the MO GOP to divert attention from their own self-inflicted wounds was ugly.

KY3's Dave Catanese and the P-D's Tony Messenger have the details.

Connecting the Dots on Photo ID

Affected voters and Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren held an awareness event with Secretary of State Robin Carnahan this afternoon to discuss an updated list of registered voters who don't have driver's licenses. The event comes as HJR 9 sits on the House Perfection Calendar and legislators have predicted that it will be sent out of the House this week.

Overall, there are nearly 230,000 Missouri registered voters who currently do not have government-issued identification. Breaking it down by county, we see a startling trend of which voters will be most impacted:

  • St. Louis Co.: 51,708
  • St. Louis City:  29,949
  • Kansas City:  22,741
  • Greene Co:  10,043
  • Jackson Co:  8,866
  • Boone Co:  6,055
  • St. Charles Co:  5,903
  • Clay Co:  5,580

The list goes on and on and on...

I don't need anymore evidence to know that photo ID will cause chaos and disenfranchise voters statewide.  I don't need anymore evidence to understand that this measure will create more hurdles for progressives than out-state conservatives.
