Peas in a Pod: Schlafly Endorses Ed Martin for Congress
Submitted by BigTom on July 5, 2011 - 11:08amAccording to an e-mail sent out by Republican Ed Martin's campaign, Conservative lumniary and feministphobe Phyllis Schlafly:

Ed Martin is a true conservative who has shown a willingness to fight for truth and conservative principles no matter how hard fight and no matter what the cost. We need conservative leaders like Ed Martin in Congress.
I guess Ann Wagner may want to reconsider all the flattering things she said about Schlafly after receiving her endorsement in her Race for RNC Chair. At the time, Wagner said Schlafly is "a trailblazer and a true champion for the conservative beliefs and causes we hold dear."
This is a big pick up in the ultra right wing, offensive positions category. Here are a few issues where Martin and Schlafly might find some agreement:
-- She calls women getting equal work for equal pay "warped social theory."
-- "Sex education classes are like in-home sales parties for abortions."
-- feminist movement is "most dangerous, destructive force in our society today"
Hey Uppity Women: Phyllis Schlafly Has a New Book to Fix All Your Problems

Monday got you down? Enjoy some brand new silliness from Phyllis Schlafly, whose ideas and activism are fully embraced by the Missouri GOP.
Read More »The ideology of feminism has poisoned the media, most college courses, the judiciary, the bureaucracy, and even daily conversation. Feminism starts with the premise that women are victims of an unjust patriarchy and need government to help them. This is especially hurtful to young women because feminism teaches them to plan an independent life in the workforce, without any space for husband and babies. I've been wanting to write a book about feminism for years, but there were always so many other urgent battles to fight.
Phyllis Schlafly Wants Fellow Extremist Ed Martin to Run for Senate

John Boehner, Ed Martin and Phyllis Schlafly discussion Barry Soetoro's plans to take away your "ultimate freedom to find your salvation"Posted this morning to Phyllis Schlalfly's Eagle Forum Facebook page.
Why Phyllis Schlafly's Encouraging Ed Martin to Run for U.S. Senate Against Claire McCaskill
"I have encouraged Ed Martin to run for U.S. Senate against Claire McCaskill because Ed is a proven conservative who can win this Senate seat and begin the process of reclaiming America" said Phyllis Schlafly, founder of the Eagle Forum. "Ed has a proven record of fighting for conservatives: he fought for us when Governor Blagojevich attacked the rights of conscience of pro-lifers; Ed fought for smaller government and lower taxes as Executive Director of the Missouri Club for Growth; Ed took on ACORN and fought voter fraud; Ed has been endorsed by Sheriff Joe Arpaio because Ed recognized that illegal immigration and illegal trade policies endanger America; finally, Ed ran a great race for Congress against ultra-liberal incumbent Russ Carnahan in 2010 marshalling [sic] an unprecedented army of supporters. We need Ed Martin in the U.S. Senate."
Perhaps Schlafly supports Martin because he shares her view that "all welfare goes to unmarried moms?" That Barack Obama is a "committed socialist?" (We do know that Ed thinks Obama is trying to block your access to God and heaven.) That women receiving equal pay for equal work is based on a"warped social theory?" That "sex education classes are like in-home sales parties for abortions?" Or that "the feminist movement is the most dangerous, destructive force in our society today," even worse than "the gays?"

Submitted by .Sean on January 21, 2011 - 12:48pmSt. Louis' own Phyllis Schlafly spoke with right-right-right-wing extremist Alex Jones on his radio program earlier this week, and shared her thoughts about the "earth worshipers" in the "environmental movement" and Democratic Party, and how "committed socialist" Barack Obama is the "enemy of everything that constitutionalist, conservatives and real Americans." She even gets in the absurd conspiracy theory about Obama's speech in Tucson. It's really....something.

Submitted by .Sean on January 19, 2011 - 10:33amMissouri House Republicans, led by Rep. Jay Barnes (R-Jefferson City) and Birther Rep. Tim Jones (R-Eureka), have found themselves an idea too crazy for Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum.
Let that one sink in for a moment.
Yikes: Wagner Calls Schlafly "A True Champion for the Conservative Beliefs and Causes We Hold Dear"
Submitted by .Sean on December 8, 2010 - 8:40am
Politico reports this morning that Phyllis Schlafly is endorsing Ambassador Ann Wagner's bid to be RNC Chair. The local connection doesn't make the announcement all that surprising, but check out this response from Wagner. Schlafly is "a trailblazer and a true champion for the conservative beliefs and causes we hold dear."
Seriously? Schlafly is best known for her opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s, but her extreme brand of Republicanism continues to this day. Just this summer, she made the absurd statement that "all welfare goes to unmarried moms." Last month, she opposed legislation to make sure women get paid equal wages for equal work, accusing supporters of this radical notion of subscribing to a "warped social theory." A few years ago, she used the Abu Ghraib to complain about our gender-integrated military. She thinks that global warming is a fraudulent theory put forward as part of an amorphous "globalist agenda." She thinks "sex education classes are like in-home sales parties for abortions." Last summer, Schlafly said "the feminist movement is the most dangerous, destructive force in our society today" -- much worse than "the gays."
And Wagner says these are the "conservative beliefs" she and her supporters "hold dear?" Yikes.

Joe 'The Plumber' Wurzelbacher, Phyllis Schlafly and tea partiers are coming together to oppose Proposition B, Talking Points Memo reports this morning. In Wurzelbacker's not-at-all-misleading words, the real goal of the measure is to "get rid of ALL dog breeding in Missouri...These new regulations will put almost every breeder in Missouri out of business forcing the price of dogs to sky rocket and allowing pet ownership only for the very wealthy."
With Joe, Phyllis and the tea party on one side, it's not hard for me to figure out how I'll vote on this one.

Honestly: Why would any allegedly serious candidate for office associate him or herself with Schafly's craziness?
How Offensive Does Schlafly Need To Be Before GOPers Disavow Her Hate?
Submitted by .Sean on July 30, 2010 - 8:07amUPDATE: Phyllis Schlafly doubles down in a follow-up interview: "Yes I said that. It's true, too. All welfare goes to unmarried moms."
Seventy percent of unmarried women voted for Obama. And this is because when you kick your husband out, you gotta have Big Brother government to be your provider. And they know that. And they've, they've admitted that they have all kinds of bills to continue to subsidize illegitimacy that which is now running nationwide running at 41%.

Hartzler Takes Early Lead In Radical Fringe Endorsements
Submitted by .Sean on November 5, 2009 - 6:43am
Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum has endorsed Vicky Hartzler in the GOP's 4th Congressional District primary. In her endorsement, Schlafly pointed to Hartzler's "Missouri values" and "proven record of protecting families from job-destroying tax increases."
There aren't many endorsements that would make me less likely to vote for a candidate.

Beware The Feminists
Submitted by .Sean on September 29, 2009 - 7:46amYou may not have been aware of this, but apparently The Feminist Movement is the "most dangerous, destructive force in our society today" -- way more dangerous than "The Gays." Drugs, sex, dropouts, bad grades, suicides, runaways -- every social ill -- comes out of The Feminist Movement. Phyllis Schlafly explained it all this weekend at her How To Take Back America Conference, an event warmly embraced by national, state and local Republicans:
That said, "The Gays" are still responsible for 5% of our societal ills.

If you didn't get enough extreme right-wing fun last weekend at the Values Voter Summit in DC, it's not too late to attend to sign up for this weekend's "How To Take Back America Conference" in St. Louis. Hosted by Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum and a bunch of like-mind (very) conservative activists, this weekend's event may actually be crazier than the Values Voter fiesta.
Here are just a few of the workshops being offered:
- How to recognize living under Nazis & Communists
- How to counter the homosexual extremist movement
- How to deal with supremacist judges
- How to stop socialism in health care
- How to deal with global warming, cap and trade
- How to understand Islam
And looking at the histories of the featured speakers, the phrase "middle-of-the road" doesn't exactly come to mind.
