Hunting License Shake-Down Remembered
Submitted by Jefferson Thomas on August 31, 2009 - 2:44pm
As dove season opens tomorow, Ed Martin will no doubt be remembering (probably proudly) his shake-down of the Department of Conservation Director for a free hunting license.
Here is the still-smoking Martin email:

Does the chief of staff get a dove hunting permit as part of his position? I am hoping to go on Monday next.

And now he wants to be your Congressman--- at least that's the current best thinking of his wandering mind.
Martin: I have a personal request.

Doing great, thanks. I have a personal request. I have 4 domain names reserved (www.themartinchronicles.com and .org and circularletter.com and .org). Themartinchronicles names are for a family site (photos, etc). The others are for a political site someday. How much does it cost to put up a website (just one front page) to sort of show that they are being held?
Thanks.

Follow-up on MIAC Post
Submitted by Sherman Potter on March 28, 2009 - 12:48pmA few readers have asked about the release referenced by Van Godsey in the email to Henry Hershel referenced in a Thursday post.
Here is the paragraph on MIAC that Godsey appreciated in a release about fighting illegal immigration:
Read More »The governor also spotlighted his Missouri Information and Analysis Center as a resource for law enforcement. Blunt created the center in 2005 and it has now become both a regional and national example of information collection, analysis, and dissemination. Earlier this year the center played an important role in helping uncover and research illegal workers who had been employed by a state contractor.
Piecing it all together: Matt Blunt, Ed Martin and the firing of Scott Eckersley
Submitted by .Sean on March 26, 2009 - 5:28pmThough the formal investigation into the record retention practices of the Blunt administration records has concluded, Scott Eckersley's defamation suit is yet to be resolved.
As first reported by Fired Up!, Eckersley, a former Blunt staff lawyer, was fired in September 2007. Eckersley says he was fired after raising concerns about whether Blunt’s office was properly applying the Sunshine Law to e-mails. But after Eckersley was fired, Governor Blunt, COS Ed Martin and others tried to convince the public that Eckersley's dismissal was the result of improper use of state resources, and had nothing to do with his warnings about the legal record retention requirements.
However, the publicly released emails from Ed Martin, Richard Aubuchon, Rich Chrismer and others show that requests for details on Eckersley's computer and phone use came after Fired Up! reported that Eckersley had been locked out of the Governor's office.

I am going to repeat to you what I just relayed to Henry-I just had a good, lengthy conversation with Tom Deuschle regarding past panels' political affiliations in order to compile a more comprehensive history--(Henry knows that I contacted him). Toward the end of the conversation (wlo any prompting fiom me), he strongly recommended that we contact PAUL STENDON (Ct of Appeals in KC) to get the straight scoop on Breckenridge. Stendon was an Ashcrofi republican appointee and very- close religious friend of Ashcroft's who Deuschle says can be completely trusted to he discreet and give us the straight scoop on her.
He mentioned that Henry knows Stendon well and would be a good person to contact him in a confidential fashion. I did not say too much or allude to anything in our conversation.. . it was more of him telling stories about past panels and appointments in an appropriate way. I just wanted to pass this along blc it sounds like this might he our best bet at an honest republican analysis of Breckenridge and her views on real issues.
Also, Yolanda and I have put together an organized binder on Breck and have included all of the correspondence/research that I have received from you so that you can access when you want-it is all intact.
I don't think Chrismer gets it.

Time for War?
Submitted by Sherman Potter on March 23, 2009 - 12:19pmReading through the released Blunt administration emails, one can't help but notice a palpable disdain for the Missouri press corps. Looking at things from the Blunt Team perspective, it's not that hard to see why -- with just a little poking around, one could uncover some pretty embarrassing stuff.
For instance, in August 2007, former Governor Matt Blunt wanted to repeal the state's ticket scalping law. Coincidently, Blunt's brother, Andy, was a lobbyist for Ticketmaster, which stood to make a lot of money from the change. Much to the chagrin of Blunt and his allies, Post-Dispatch reporter Virginia Young noted the conflict in a piece called "Blunt Backs Ticket Scalping. His Brother Appreciates It." Here's an excerpt:
What does ticket scalping have to do with economic development?
Jessica Robinson, the governor's spokeswoman, said the provision "will be good for tourism and economic development. It will make it easier for fans to gain access to tickets in a legal and convenient secondary market."
Labeling the issue urgent had nothing to do with the fact that the governor's brother, Andy Blunt, lobbies for Ticketmaster, Robinson said. Andy Blunt "did not have a role in the decision." Robinson said.
Not surprisingly, the Blunt Team, including Lt. Governor Peter Kinder and Chief of Staff Ed Martin, didn't like getting out for what looked like a pretty obvious conflict.
