Blunt Assessment: "Some of what he knows just isn’t true"

The Editorial Board at The Post-Dispatch takes Roy Blunt to task this morning for his bad facts about the Canadian and British health care systems (similar systems aren't even being proposed in Congress, but that doesn't stop Blunt from trying to make scary comparisons) and his misleading and wrong assertions about the number of uninsured.

As chairman of the House Republican Health Care Solutions Group, Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Springfield, knows a thing or two about health care. But some of what he knows just isn’t true...

Health policy is complicated, no doubt about it. Not everyone understands it. But everyone, particularly responsible political leaders, at least should try to get the facts straight.

The full editorial is worth a read, especially given the incredible amount of bad information from GOP leaders in Congress and on leaders on the airwaves.  More than enough to suggest that an honest debate isn't the goal.

If Blunt was truly committed to reform in a timely fashion, he and his fellow GOP leaders would have attempted legislation when they were in power -- or at least put forward reform legislation this year as they promised. And we wouldn't be seeing so much misinformation, from Blunt on down.
