Blunt's Conspicuous Appearance At "Exclusive VIP Gala" Gets More Play In Hometown News Outlets
In today's Politico Playbook, Mike Allen picks up on Roy Blunt's conspicuous attendance at a recent "exclusive VIP gala" to celebrate the re-opening of a Georgetown supermarket. "We live pretty close to here," you may remember Blunt telling a Politico cameraperson near the Belvedere vodka fountain, Parisian brie station and white-jacketed sommelier.
Picking up on the obvious political implications, CQ Politics posted the following:
Oh, Roy, This Is Gonna Hurt
By CQ-Roll Call StaffIt probably seemed innocuous at the time. An invitation comes for a black-tie party to launch the remodeled version of the grocery store where the yuppies and the swells get their food in the swanky Georgetown section of Washington, D.C.
But Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) isn't just any Capitol Hill fixture. He's a candidate for the Senate, and partying with the fancy folk -- with cameras rolling -- gives his opponents a chance to show how far removed Blunt's weekday world is from the Food4Less in Joplin, Mo.
Here was Allen's summary:
2010 – OUCH! The liberal AmericaBlog hits Rep. Roy Blunt, who's running for the open Senate seat in Missouri (against Secretary of State Robin Carnahan), for showing up at this month's black-tie reopening of the Social Safeway: '[H]e's gone DC. Very DC. ... He was at the reopening of the Georgetown Safeway last week, because it's his local grocery store. Nothing says you're not from Missouri anymore than being a regular at the Social Safeway in Georgetown.' (hat tip: The Georgetown Dish)
And Allen's story came from The Georgetown Dish, who featured a (mislabeled) pic of Blunt as part of the "New A-List."
Social Safeway Gala List -- the New A-List
There's "The List" and "The A-List." Now comes the "Social Safeway List." As reported in Capital Business, those who RSVP'd for the recent Safeway Gala...
