Bond Says Jobs Bill Is "Critical to Protecting Workers and Our Economy" - Blunt and Martin Say "No Thanks"
Kit Bond says the jobs bill "will help restore funding to Missouri and states across the nation that would have lost critical transportation projects and thousands of jobs."
The Star breaks down the portion of the bill dealing with transportation funding:
The bill corrects a highway funding problem that started last September when the country's last five-year transportation plan expired.
Congress has been extending it in short increments since, but at roughly $12 billion less than what was in the old plan...
Overall, Missouri was expected to lose $243 million through the end of the federal fiscal year in September. Kansas could lose $100 million...
At the very least, MoDOT said it would suspend a bid letting for 47 projects scheduled for Friday, including about a dozen in the Kansas City area.
Ironically, Roy Blunt says the jobs package that cleared the cloture hurdle yesterday doesn't include enough government spending.
Ed Martin, for his part, is now calling the bill "Porkulus II," and says it will result in an unspecified loss of freedom.
