The "Childish Tantrum" of the Missouri General Assembly

From deep in the heart of Southwest Missouri, this:

LEGISLATORS FAILING STATE, CITIZENS

Republican majorities can't overcome gap between House, Senate.

The state, like the country, is gasping for economic air, but the General Assembly is holding its breath in what looks a little bit like a childish tantrum.

This summer, the leaders of both the House and Senate demanded a special session to pass an economic development bill. In fact, they threatened that if the governor didn't call the session, they would. [...]

It's time for these lawmakers to learn how to cooperate. [...]

Unfortunately, the loser in the game is the state and its citizens. We have already paid a quarter million dollars to hold this special session -- all in hopes of legislation that could bring many millions into the state.

When Steve Tilley and Rob Mayer toured the state on their fly-around earlier this year while calling for a special session, one thought that their deal was all said and done.  And what do the Republicans who control the legislature have to show to the citizens of the great Show Me state?  That they're really good at setting up a circular firing squad on the taxpayer dime and sending the nearly $300,000 bill to the good people of Missouri.

Thanks for nothing.
