Ed Martin Is Just Too Darned Incompetent, Please Forgive Him
Adam at St. Louis Activist Hub brings up a very good point -- while Ed Martin was whining to the House ethics committee about being "a private citizen with my own small business and family" who was too busy/incompetent/overwhelmed to follow the law, he somehow managed to write about 150 blog posts for his campaign, tweet a few billion times, attend a few dozen "tea party" rallies, etc., etc.
One might also wonder about Martin's professed incompetence, given the fact that he's an attorney who claims to be able to navigate far more complex issues than a simple ethics disclosure form.
He was able to file personal financial disclosures as Matt Blunt's disgraced Chief of Staff (somehow!).
Martin also found the time and wherewithal in recent years to create and lead a host of organizations, like the American Issues Project, the Missouri Roundtable for Life, Missourians United of Life, SaveAB.com for America, Term Limits for Missouri, Big Canoe Consulting LLC, the Institute for Transparent Government (!), M Kay LLC, Conservative Heartland Leadership Conference, the Missouri Center Right Coaltion, his Whitey Herzog non-profit.... How did he manage?
And then there are those campaign committees for which Martin served as treasurer -- the Missourians United for Life Committee (still active) and the Missouri Club for Growth Committee. How did a "private citizen" like Ed develop the know-how to file campaign finance reports on time?
He also knows how to file frivolous lawsuits to waste taxpayer money and get his name in the paper. But how is he supposed to keep track of his own dealings?
Poor Ed Martin. He's just a humble private citizen who's only recently entered politics, and unfairly forced to disclose basic information in a timely manner like every other candidate for Congress in the country.
