False
Doug Wilson of the Quincy Herald-Whig writes the following about a recent Roy Blunt campaign stop:
Blunt said campaign advertisements targeting him in favor of Democrat Robin Carnahan have contained lies. One of the ads says Blunt is a "friend of terrorists" showing pictures of the burning USS Cole and Osama bin Laden. The connection that was supposed to support that argument had to do with Blunt's opposition to the cap and trade climate legislation that will drive up energy prices.
This refers to the VoteVets.org ad that got under Blunt's skin in February. It's unclear from the poorly-written article whether Blunt made these allegations, or if Wilson embellished to help Blunt make his case. Either way, the VoteVets ad does not say Blunt "is a 'friend of terrorists," as the story alleges.
When the Missouri GOP complained about the commercial, they made no mention of Osama bin Laden or the "friend of terrorists" line, perhaps because neither was in the spot.
It's also nice of Wilson to describe the proposed clean energy bill in the most reserved, unbiased language possible this beast of a sentence: "The connection that was supposed to support that argument had to do with Blunt's opposition to the cap and trade climate legislation that will drive up energy prices." Wilson doesn't bother to mention Blunt's solid track record of overstating the expected costs of clean energy legislation (see here, here and here, for example), or noting how much costs are actually expected to increase under the various provisions.
