Four months, five pages
Roy Blunt (R-K Street) and his "Health Care Solutions Working Group" have finally produced a health care "plan" for Congressional Republicans to talk up with their constituents. Sadly, the health care "plan" appears to be modeled closely after the "budget" produced by Blunt and his fellow GOP leaders in March. Just a few talking points, with no real plan.
After four months of work on an extremely important issue that affects just about every person in America, Blunt has only been able to come up with...."a five-page briefing document."
I may be getting a little ahead of myself, since the document hasn't been made public yet, but consider the following: there has been no release about the "plan" on Roy Blunt's website or GOP.gov. In fact, there doesn't seem to be any press on Blunt's plan, except for one line in an article in The Hill. If you'd finally come up with some actionable solutions to address one of the most important economic and quality-of-life problems in America, wouldn't you want the world to know? And assuming you had a plan for such an enormous set of problems, wouldn't a plan to address those problems take more than five pages?
Hold on, you say. Who ever said that Blunt's task force was supposed to actually do something?
Rep. Roy Blunt (Mo.), who is helming the House GOP’s healthcare task force, said Monday that he wants to provide his colleagues with an alternative reform proposal before Congress recesses for Memorial Day. “We hope to have a set of solutions outlined that we think Republicans can rally around for our members to take home with them when they leave here at the end of the month,” he told The Hill. (emphasis added)
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced Wednesday that Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) will chair a Health Care Task Force to craft Republican solutions to increase Americans’ access to affordable health care...
“Health care costs are too high, access is too limited, and American families and small businesses are looking to their leaders in Washington for free-market solutions, not a government-dominated health care bureaucracy,” said Boehner. “House Republicans will not be content to be ‘the party of no.’
“Instead, we will be the party of better solutions, and few issues demand more positive solutions than our nation’s health care crisis. Roy Blunt is uniquely qualified to chair this Task Force, which will help shape innovative House Republican health care solutions at a time when the American people need them most,” Boehner said. (emphasis added)
But all we got was "a five-page briefing document."
I've always thought that "few issues demand more positive solutions than our nation’s health care crisis."
Maybe all we need are more talking points.
