The GOP Has Lost Its Way; A self-indulgent musing and critique about Republicans with my own thoughts about values and politics

A self-indulgent musing and critique about Republicans with my own thoughts about values and politics --

The GOP has lost its way
Doesn’t know which way to go
The choice is either a hard right turn
   Or a self-serving status-quo

Principles went out the window
   Sold out by a leadership
Desiring to serve themselves
   Trapped in corruption’s grip

There is no need to live your faith
Here is what you can do
Instead of action on your part
They’ll legislate the TRUTH for you

As long as you are in power
   And vote a certain way
They’ll overlook the things you do
   They think adultery is okay

‘Cause family values really aren’t
Born of love and a sense of duty
It is more about what the leaders say
Not what they do with some young cutie

Republicans don’t care for values
   Despite the things they say
They talk about them at election time
To get votes to come their way

They say government should only do
A few things at the most
Like pay for some parties
And trips to the left coast

Yes, government is to provide
  Parties for the elite
Not health care for the poor
Or food for kids to eat

The money spent on donors
   Is not about the economy
It is about reelection
And what is best for the G-O-P

So don’t confuse the hype
   With actual policy
There are hidden costs behind
What they say is good for you and me

So if you think tax payer cash
Is best spent on parties for the elite
And saying family values means
   It is okay to cheat

Then they are the party
   You should support
But I really think
They tend to come up short

Government spending should
   Help the economy expand
And we need a safety net
For those who need a helping hand

And I think I must live my Faith
Government cannot do it for me
My Faith requires I work and love
To reach the people that I see

While voting is much easier
   And politics brings me power
I still think I must live my Faith
   Each and every hour
