The influence of the birthers in the General Assembly

This morning, KTRS radio host Charles Jaco and Tony Messenger of the Post-Dispatch talked about yesterday's events with Orly Taitz in Jefferson City and St. Louis. Listen:

Much of their discussion focused on the influence of Taitz' followers in the House and Senate.

Consider the following leadership positions of the birthers:

  • Sen Jim Lembke
Taitz says Lembke has been "very supportive," and he sent an aide to yesterday's event in St. Charles.

    • Vice-Chair of the Senate Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee
    • Vice-Chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee

  • Rep. Tim Jones
Jones is a plaintiff in Taitz' legal actions against Obama.

    • Chair of Special Standing Committee on General Laws
    • Vice-Chair of Special Standing Committee on Workforce Development and Workplace Safety
    • Key leader of much of the Republican debate on the House Floor

  • Rep. Cynthia Davis
Davis is a plaintiff in Taitz' legal actions against Obama, and attended yesterday's meeting in St. Charles

    • Chair of the Special Standing Committee on Children and Families
    • Fast become the face of the Missouri legislature to everyone who has cable television

  • Rep. Ed Emery
Emery attended yesterday's meeting in Jefferson City.

    • Chair of the House Utilities Committee

  • Rep. MikeMcGhee
McGhee confirmed his intention to attend one of the Taitz events, and was a co-sponsor of the birthers' proposed constitutional amendment, which was later withdrawn.

    • Chair of the Corrections and Public Institutions Committee

  • Rep. Robert Cooper
Cooper was the chief sponsor of the birthers' proposed constitutional amendment, later withdrawn. He was mentioned by name as a fellow believer at yesterday's event in Jefferson City.

    • Chair of the Health Care Policy Committee

  • Rep. Casey Guernsey
Guernsey is a plaintiff in Taitz' legal actions against Obama.

    • Guernsey can legitimately be considered a right wing back bencher
