Luetkemeyer Still Singing Two Tunes on Stimulus Money

Blaine Luetkemeyer continues to be open to the idea that he can help his district (and his public profile) with federal economic recovery money, while still denouncing the stimulus package as a monstrous waste of taxpayer money. Friday, the Post-Dispatch reported that Luetkemeyer -- along with Gov. Nixon, Sen Kit Bond and Sen. Claire McCaskill and Rep Todd Akin -- is publicly supporting a request for $100 million in stimulus grants to finish a road project in St. Charles County.

This isn't surprising -- or even a bad thing.  But it is worth remembering the next time Luetkemeyer stands up to talk about the stimulus package was and is an awful idea. He has repeatedly said the economic recovery money "isn’t putting people back to work" called the package "reckless" -- in short, he says, it's a "disaster."

Also, in April, Luetkemeyer announced he would not be requesting any earmarks for the 9th District because "there needs to be more transparency, accountability and fiscal restraint" of projects."
