Martin Smiles in Silence as Supporter Spouts Birther Nonsense

Adam Shriver of St. Louis Activist Hub flags a fascinating exchange between Ed Martin and a supporter at a March 3rd campaign event.  In it, Martin smiles from the podium as a supporter raves about WorldNetDaily.com editor Joseph Farah and Barack Obama's birth certificate.  Martin does nothing to distance himself from the radical comments; instead, he just praises the man's mention of local precinct captains.  Watch:

You don't have to know about Joseph Farah (but you should) to know what the man is talking about.  Martin most certainly understood -- but chose to remain mum.

Ironically, Shriver notes, it was conservative activist Adam Sharp who felt the need to condemn the man's lunacy a few minutes later.  Watch:

People say crazy things into open microphones, and it isn't fair or reasonable to project the views of audience members onto candidates. At the same time, it's not unreasonable to expect Martin to separate himself from extreme views when they're voiced at his event. (It's not like Ed is reluctant to voice his opinions about any other issue.)  Because Martin chose not to respond to either the older man's birther talk -- or to Sharp's condemnation -- we can only assume that he is unwilling or unwilling to stand up to the birther crowd.
