A musing about the GOP and Character

In times past
                Now let me see
Fidelity mattered 
                To the GOP
Character counts is what they used to state
I wonder why
               This sudden swing
They no-longer think
                A wedding ring
Is a way to measure the candidate!
But as I read 
           This news report
It seems to say 
           They don't support
Character as a topic of debate
So I wonder
            Could it be?
They don’t want 
            For us to see
The way a candidate treats his mate?
 
What is it now?
                They wish to hide
When fidelity
                They push aside
Or so says the fourth estate?
 
Long ago
                It occurred to me
When it comes
                To the GOP
Hypocrisy is a common trait
