Musings about term limits and why NOT to be hasty in eliminating them!

I have given the concept
Of term limits a lot of thought

Because I want a government
Where politicians are not bought

At first I was against term limits
For the reasons critics say

I thought they would be a mistake
Now I DON’T want them to go away

I support them for the reasons
They were first put into place

The long time incumbents
Assured of winning the next race

Forget the need for new ideas
Only listen to the base

So with self assurances
They could never lose
 
The long time incumbents
Do what e’er they choose
 
Money is no problem
There is no need to care
 
Disconnected from the public
They forget what’s right and fair
 
Eventually they start thinking
They are better than the rest
 
Of us unimportant voters
A constituent is a pest
 
Dealing with the public
Stops the more important work
 
Of glad-handing the elite
And enjoying a new perk
 
 
Ron can’t just ignore the folks
Without someone giving him a fight
 
I dearly hope the incumbents
Realize their stay won’t be long
 
And decide to do what matters
To keep Missouri prosperous and strong
 
Now, I don’t want to give to you
A nightmare with this thought
 
So only continue reading
If a strong stomach you have got
 
Now think of how without term limits
For decades we might see
