I thought Ron Richard already passed a comprehensive ethics reform package

Wha' happened?

Maybe the News-Leader forgot that Ron Richard has already accomplished everything there is to reasonably accomplish on ethics reform

Lawmakers ignored reform
Transparency bill to end "village law"-type secrecy failed to pass.

So much for good intentions. State Rep. Dennis Wood spoke like he was full of them early this year. But when it came time to make good, he came up short....

[W]e're disappointed Wood apparently had neither the will nor the clout to get the "transparency bill" passed. Doubly disappointing is that so many legislators had spoken previously with such passion about the need to keep a village law quagmire from recurring.

It's easy, apparently, to forget about the power of transparency and accountability.

In April, Speaker Richard said he wasn't interested in additional ethics reform, because a 2008 bill removed all campaign contribution limits, and that bill achieved all the ethics reform goals he had set. It's still an amazing claim.
