Poll: 69% of Americans want a public health care option
Most Americans want a public health care option.
A new Quinnipiac poll finds 69% of Americans support creation of a government-run health plan to compete with private insurance companies. In fact, 52% of those surveyed said such a plan would keep the private insurance companies honest.
However, even though most of those polled backed creation of a government plan, 53% said they would prefer to buy private health insurance, compared with 28% who would join a government health plan.
The same poll shows that President Obama is trusted far more than Congressional Republicans to lead the way.
By a margin of 53 percent to 33 percent, respondents said they trusted Obama over congressional Republicans to handle health care.
