Previewing This Weekend's "How To Take Back America Conference"

If you didn't get enough extreme right-wing fun last weekend at the Values Voter Summit in DC, it's not too late to attend to sign up for this weekend's "How To Take Back America Conference" in St. Louis. Hosted by Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum and a bunch of like-mind (very) conservative activists, this weekend's event may actually be crazier than the Values Voter fiesta.

Here are just a few of the workshops being offered:

  • How to recognize living under Nazis & Communists
  • How to counter the homosexual extremist movement
  • How to deal with supremacist judges
  • How to stop socialism in health care
  • How to deal with global warming, cap and trade
  • How to understand Islam

And looking at the histories of the featured speakers, the phrase "middle-of-the road" doesn't exactly come to mind.

Kitty Werthmann
Werthmann is the leader of South Dakota's Eagle Forum affiliate, and believes America is "walking the same path as the Nazi's." As noted by one of her fans at World Net Daily: "Werthmann said it took five years for Hitler to rise to a dictatorship, and is amazed at how fast history is repeating itself here." Previously, she produced and sold a DVD called "Freedom to Dictatorship in 5 Years."

Mike Huckabee
The Republican Party's most huggable right-wing conservative, Huck came out ahead in last week's Values Voters 2012 straw poll. In August, he audaciously claimed that under Obama's health care plan, Ted Kennedy would have been told to "go home to take pain pills and die" during his last year of life. However, his presidential aspirations may be forever hampered by his suggestion that the GOP should "stop being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wall Street and the corporations."

Rep. Michele Bachmann
Minnesota's least favorite loon, Bachmann "last fall called for an investigation into whether members of Congress are “pro-America or anti-America." This spring, she said Obama wanted to start "re-education" camps for America's youth. And in what can only be seen as a bad sign, House Minority Leader John Boehner and Eric Cantor took the internets this week to state that they're still proud to serve with her.

Rep. Steve King
Last year, King declared that Barack Obama would "certainly be viewed as a savior for" terrorists. In his mind, Obama's presidency would bring  "joy" to "radical Islamists." This summer, he was the only member to oppose a resolution to acknowledge the role of slave labor in the construction of the US Capitol.

 Samuel Wurzelbacher the Plumber
Sam is expected to deliver an intellectually stimulating speech during Friday's dinner about how his celebrity represents much of what is wrong with America's political discourse.  Alternate topics include which US Senators should be "strung up," how he's sexually aroused by fellow crazies or why he won't let homosexuals near his children.

Thankfully, this summer, Wurzelbacher asked God if he should run for office. He reports: "I talked to God about that and he was like, 'No.'"

Todd Akin?
Interestingly, Rep. Todd Akin's participation in a Sunday morning prayer breakfast is no longer on the main schedule page, but he is still listed on a harder-to-find big-picture schedule.

Just another weekend for the Republican Party...
