PROMO Job Description: Kansas City Regional Field Organizer
Job Title: Field Organizer - Full-Time Position
Job Supervisor: Executive Director
Job Location: Kansas City, MO
Position Description:
The Field Organizer is dedicated to building broad based support for PROMO and LGBT equality in targeted areas in Missouri. Focus is on building relationships with groups and individuals, training and motivating activists, and increasing member and activist base.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a strong grassroots activist network, focusing on the KC Metro and surrounding areas
- Organize in-district meetings and community events, recruit hosts and participants, and prepare and facilitate presentations
- Maintain regular contact with key activists and coalition organizations
- Develop activists' skills and leadership through trainings
- Develop a working relationship with local and state elected officials
- Assist in political campaigns as designated by PROMO PAC
- Recruit new members
- Organize house parties, recruit hosts and maintain contact with hosts to ensure success
- Recruit volunteers to assist with workload as needed
- Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Director
Requirements:
- Commitment to justice and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons
- Experience working with grassroots political and organizing programs
- Commitment to achieve mutually agreed upon goals
- Commitment to building a diverse, multi-cultural organization
- Ability to listen and receive constructive feedback
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
- An outgoing, assertive personality, and a willingness to "work the room"
- Leadership qualities and the ability to mobilize others to action
- Fundraising experience
- Ability to work with and build a team
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with regard to handling of confidential information and maintaining professional standards of conduct
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Must be able to work independently with direction
- Availability to travel
Compensation:
Full-time, salaried position, average of 45+ hours/week with some travel and cell phone reimbursement. Health insurance available after 90 days. Salary negotiable.
