Purgason Challenges Blunt to Disavow Entire Washington Record

State Sen. Chuck Purgason is asking his fellow candidates in the GOP primary for Senate -- Rep. Roy Blunt, Robert Praprotnik and Mark Memoly -- to sign his "Contract with Missouri." Here are Purgason's promises, as outlined in the News-Leader:

  1. Balanced Budget
  2. No Earmarks
  3. No member of my family will be a lobbyist
  4. No TARP or other so-called Stimulus Package programs
  5. No Campaign Funds from Bailed Out Companies
  6. I will have no fundraisers outside the State of Missouri
  7. Self-Imposed Term Limit of Two Terms

Of course, Roy Blunt can't promise to do any of these things.

  1. He was the #3 Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, passing George W. Bush's unbalanced budgets, the Medicare Part D bill, etc.
  2. He loves him some earmarks
  3. He divorced his first wife and married Abigail Perlman, a lobbyist for Altria Group, the parent company of Philip Morris, in 2003
  4. He was the lead negotiator for House Republicans in passing the 2008 TARP bill, even begging his colleagues to switch their votes and pass the bill
  5. He's accepted campaign money from bailed out banks
  6. He regularly raises money in Washington from powerful DC lobbyists, and raises money from GOP donors around the country. Incredibly, he was named one the "Top Congressional Partiers" last year because he's asking for cash in Washington so often.
  7. He's first entered elected office in 1972, and has served seven terms in Congress already

But apart from all that, I think Chuck, Roy, Mark and Robert have some common ground here.
