Riding for Three Teams
Going through the latest report for Peter Kinder's new campaign finance committee, I was struck to see a new $1,500 payment to Stacey Blomberg for "compliance" services. If the name sounds familiar, it's because Blomberg's name appeared in a News-Leader article yesterday about the unusual relationship between Tour of Missouri Inc., the Lt. Governor's official office and taxpayers.
Blomberg previously worked for Kinder in his capitol office, and has been working for his campaign for some time. And, as Chad Livengood reported yesterday, she's currently a state employee who spends at least "50-60%" of her official time serving as Tresurer for the private corporation, Tour of Missouri, Inc. This works out to about $27,000-$32,452 in additional taxpayer support (not including benefits, office expenses, etc.) for the race.
Kinder's 2008-2009 campaign reports show $19,858 in "compliance, lodging and mileage" expenses paid to Blomberg. Last year, she was also paid more than $13,000 by the Better Leadership for Missouri committee, also a part of the Kinder political apparatus. That's an impressive $32,858 in addtional income and reimbursements paid by Kinder and his associated committee -- and that doesn't even include her campaign work for other GOP committees.
In the current arrangement, Blomberg is overseeing the finances for both Kinder's campaign and the Tour of Missouri -- while also ostensibly looking out for the taxpayers' best interest.
Those are a lot of helmets to be wearing at one time.

ALSO: Does Blomberg's handling of bills, contracts and other documents handled in an official government capacity make those documents public records?
