Speaker Ron Richard apparently hasn't gotten around to reading the Governor's proposal to provide health care to 35,000 uninsured Missourians.
As you know, the proposal was first talked about last weekend. It was announced last Monday. It's been the subject of about 200 articles in the last week. And Republicans (including Richard himself) voted to block the proposal on the House floor.
But this is what he told The Joplin Globe yesterday:
House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin, said in a telephone interview Tuesday that he has not yet seen the proposal.
“If it’s reasonable, we’ll be willing to look at it,” he said.
I've reread this about seven times --- and keep telling myself that it can't possibly be real. Are we supposed to believe the Speaker when he says he hasn't "seen the proposal" yet? And that he might be open to it now if he finds it "reasonable"?
What are we supposed to think if he is serious?
