Ron Richard Thinks Ron Richard's Budget is "Irresponsible"
An instant Ron Richard classic:
On Thursday, House Speaker Ron Richard declared during a press conference that House Republicans didn't use $300 million in federal stimulus dollars that haven't been appropriated by Congress yet.
“We thought that was … on the irresponsible side, and we decided not to do that,” Richard told reporters in front of the GOP caucus.
But the GOP spending plan introduced late Wednesday by House Budget Chairman Allen Icet does include the $300 million.
Icet's budget supplants $100 million of the money into medical care for prisoners and $200 million into the Medicaid program. Nixon's budget funds those programs at the same level, but with general revenue, not one-time stimulus funds.
Shortly after Richard proclaimed that the Republican caucus didn't use the one-time funds, Icet stood up to the podium at a press conference alongside Richard and was asked by a reporter why he used the money for Medicaid and prisoner medical care.
"Because those areas needed to be funded," Icet said.
This would be a lot funnier if the budget situation wasn't so serious.
