Scary Quote of the Day

Congressman Todd Akin actually suggests that it would be better for the United States Congress not to reach a compromise that would raise the debt ceiling and lower the amount of federal spending:

Rep. Todd Akin, R-Wildwood, a candidate for the Republican Senate nomination in Missouri, contended that missing the Aug. 2 deadline would be a better alternative than some of the proposals being discussed.

"The bad idea is to continue wild spending and get to the point where it's game over, where debt service is higher than revenues," Akin said in an interview.

"I consider that to be a worse alternative than, for a month or two, for us to actually experience what it is like to live within our means, what every family has to do. I think it would shock us as a nation into saying that we really have to deal with this problem," he said.
