Star Responds To 'Climategate' Hysterics: "Some People Have Leaped To Absurd Conclusions"

A new editorial in the Kansas City Star declares the controversy about hacked emails from climate scientists a "dud." 

But in reacting to this development, some people have leaped to absurd conclusions.

The first is that this incident “proves” climate change is not occurring.

The second is that it shows there’s no need for the world’s political leaders to take bold action at the upcoming Climate Conference in Copenhagen, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Wrong. And wrong.

The furor over the e-mails hasn’t changed the central reality:

The overwhelming preponderance of evidence from scientific research from around the world indicates global warming is a reality, and manmade emissions have played a role in climate changes.

These persons with "absurd conclusions" left unnamed in the editorial include  Lt. Governor Peter Kinder (who wrote about a "massive fraud exposed"), Congressional candidate Ed Martin ("the foundational texts of the Church of Global Warming are based on nothing more than scientific fraud") and sadly, too many other Republican leaders excited at the chance to muddy the waters of public opinion in the hope of preserving the status quo.
