Time For An Intervention
It's astonishing, really.
Despite numerous corrections over many, many, many months, Peter Kinder continues to scare Missouri voters with the completely bogus claim that the federal health care reform law will cost $500M per year "in a few years."
Speaking with KOLR, Kinder declared:
They've handed the bill to Missouri taxpayers who are stuck with a bill for hundreds of millions of dollars over the next decade and beyond. And it's a moving target so we don't know how much but I'm using the figure $500 million a year in a few years and forever after.
This is just wrong, and Kinder knows it.
We knew the $500M per year estimate were wrong last October, because the funding formula changed long before it was passed by the Senate. It's not a moving target -- the health care reform bill is now law -- and there are real (much lower) estimates from the Missouri Department of Social Services.
You could read detailed explanations of why Kinder is wrong in the mainstream press here, here, here, here and here.
You can also read some analysis from the Lieutenant Governor's favorite blog here, here, here and here.
You could even read the links Kinder and Richard AuBuchon, his Chief of Staff, tweeted to their followers. (The links in their tweets are now dead, but the News-Leader story they were promoting is archived here.)
There's really no way to explain or excuse this junk from Kinder.
