When did Kinder know that the Chiefs were lying?

imageThe Chiefs are asserting that no matter what they were saying in public, in documents provided to the Missouri Development Finance Board, or at MDFB meetings, they had no intention of committing to ten years in St. Joseph.

The football club, however, contends that it committed to just five years and that the state knew that from the start — when the Finance Board’s chairman was Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a Republican.

When did Peter Kinder know that the Chiefs were lying?  He was Chair of the MDFB for the entire period in question.  Did he know they were lying at the December 18 meeting?  Or only after the meeting, at which point he felt empowered to negotiate an agreement completely inconsistent with the deal presented to and passed unanimously by the MDFB?

Kinder and his office helped draft the revised agreement. Kinder was at the December 18 meeting when the Chiefs made a very clear promise to keep their camp in St. Joseph for "a minimum of ten years."  He was "supportive of the deal" with former Governor Blunt when the agreement was revised to require just half of the commitment from the Chiefs (but the full commitment of the state).

Caught, Kinder sent out two of his lackeys to blame Gov. Nixon for his unreasonable expectation that organizations who get $25 million from taxpayers should follow through on the promises they made to get said millions.

Rich AuBuchon: “Why is Nixon trying to kill this deal?”

Gary McElyea: “It’s very unclear as to the governor’s motive for stopping this project when the community of St. Joseph is just weeks away from breaking ground on a facility that will benefit their university and community for years to come.”

Who does Nixon think he is?  I mean -- come on! -- it's not like there were documents or votes or promises or pledges or committments or anything.
