Why are our leaders supporting this insanity?

Seriously: at what point does Orly Taitz's conspiracy theory crusade become too much for elected legislators to support?  Sen. Jim Lembke, Rep. Mike McGhee, Rep. Tim Jones, Rep. Cynthia Davis and Rep. Casey Guernsey have all publicly supported Orly Taitz's birther lawsuits, either as plaintiffs or as exepcted guests for this week's events.

In just the past 24 hours, Taitz has written about the arrival of the American "Nazi state" and her concern with Obama's alleged homosexuality.  This is what Taitz posted early this morning:

To be quite honest, I am less concerned with Sanford’s affair with a Latin beauty, as I am with Larry Sinklair’s reports about Donald Young being Obama’s homosexual lover and being found shot in the head execution style at the onset of the Democratic Primary...

As for AP and the rest of MSM, if I were to sit on their boards, I would be reading very closely and very carefully my dossiers sent to FBI, as it shows AP and the rest of MSM as employers of Barry and Michelle Obama, as reported on the Net databases. Too many way-back machines are scanning the net these days, you can’ t scrub everything and I’ll be really worried about being named as an additional defendant, if someone were to file a RICO suit...

These aren't sporadic departures from reality.  It's very standard stuff from Taitz and her allies. And it can't be dismissed as just wacko internet chatter when so many members of the General Assembly choose to support this junk.

I emailed all of the legislators listed above last week to ask about why and how they were supporting Taitz and her efforts.  Only Mike McGhee wrote me back -- Lembke, Jones, Davis and Guersney refused to respond. Here is what McGhee wrote:

Sean,

I feel that is my responsibility as a representative to the state of Missouri to be educated and informed.

Because I have chosen to seek more information regarding this matter, in no way states my position of support for or against these allegations.

Mike

The suggestion that McGhee is just attending Taitz's event to gather information is ridiculous. McGhee co-sponsored legislation in March to address the Obama birth certificate conspiracy allegations with a constitutional amendment. McGhee's name is listed (and still misspelled, btw) on Taitz's website as en example of the mainstream support for her outrageous claims.  And Taitz's record of absurd, offensive and libelous claims was known to the world long before McGhee RSVP'd to the July 1 event.  In addition to Taitz's discredited conspiracy theories, I asked McGhee if he had any comment on any of these other allegations:

  • Barack Obama is "a radical communist, radical Muslim, raised in a mob."
  • Americans "Need [a] Citizen’s militia to Make sure citizens are not rounded into FEMA Civilian Labor Camps."
  • America is "a Nazi police state."
  • Obama is running a "criminal enterprise."

Unsurprisingly, McGhee did not respond to my second email.

Lembke, McGhee, Jones, Davis and Guersey must be held accountable for their decisions to stand publicly with this group, and lend their names and reputations to the cause.  Can you imagine what the response might be to a similar situation in which five progressive legislators proudly supported an equally-insane conspiracy theorist?
