Blunt Names Former Team Abramoff Lobbyist As ED Of Missouri Republican Party

According to the Missourinet, Governor Matt Blunt today named Jared Craighead as the new Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. Blunt offloaded Craighead from the Deputy Chief of Staff position in his office, hoping that by reshuffling his official staff, he could prop up his failing administration.

This is also an indication that Blunt takes seriously the potential primary challenges of State Treasurer Sarah Steelman and former Chief Justice Chip Robertson, and is trying to consolidate control over the party apparatus in anticipation of that dual primary challenge.

Craighead is a surprising choice for this post. He has virtually no previous political experience, but he does come with serious ethical baggage.

Craighead was part of the Team Abramoff cadre of lobbyists at Cassidy and Associates, the DC-based lobbying firm where Jack Abramoff once worked. Abramoff is under federal indictment in Florida, and additional indictments for his activities as a Washington lobbyist are widely expected.

Craighead also played a role earlier this year in the scandal involving former Roy Blunt aide, Greg Hartley, and the $50,000 contract he received to ensure that Governor Blunt did not veto a bill of interest to the Realtors, despite a recomendation from the FTC and the DOJ that he do so.

Craighead also has ties to a suspicious contract that Cassidy and Associates enjoyed with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

During Craighead's tenure on Rep. Blunt's staff, he was one of several Blunt staffers who took junkets to Turkey, courtesy of the special interests, including Phillip Morris, the company where Roy Blunt's lobbyist wife is employed.

Trooper calls:

I will ask them where they are calling from next time.... and I did ask the Policemans Organization where they were calling from...and they said a state in the North...like Michigan or Wisconson --I don't remember which state....but I do know it was not in Missouri...and I did a little research and supposedly it is a business that goes to an organization and offers to make all the calls for a cut of the proceeds...and the organization receives a palty sum...like maybe 15% of what is collected... But I was told, that this is good for the organization...cause they are receiving money that they did not have to work for....everything was done for them on a business basis.... But when I donate to an organization, I want ALL my dollars to go to that particular organization----- not to a Telemarketers Company ! Betty Kowalewich

CRAIGHEAD

Sounds like way too much baggage, but this is so typical of Matty's entire administration.  Personally, I think he should send Spaz to work for Gregg Hartley.  There are so many chickens coming home to roost that I'm losing count.  Gracie

Missouri Highway Patrol

I just read where Baby Blunt gave the Missouri Highway Patrol an increase in wages.... and if that is true, why would the Missouri State Patrol be calling for donations> They call me every year to contribute to the state patrol.... and this year I received two calls for donations.... It would seem that it would be illegal for a state funded organization to solicit funds from the public and draw a public paid pay check.... what goes on here ? Is this real or is this a scam that needs attention ? Betty Kowalewich Betty Kowalewich

Something I have always wondered...

I have always wondered if the State Troopers Assn. uses "telemarketers from the big house." I sort of recall the last time I got a solicitation call from them, they do the "let me transfer you to my supervisor to confirm your address" thing, which, to me is a tipoff that they are using prison help to do their soliciting.

Hmmm...prison help is good enough to solicit money for state troopers but not work in the governor's mansion...go figure...

Do not be alarmed...

You might have received a call soliciting funds for the Missouri State Troopers Association, which is a legitimate organization that advocates on behalf of Missouri's State Troopers.

State troopers association

00000K--- Then what does the State Troopers Assciation do with the funds solicited from the public....And who does the calling ? And if it is an out of state organization that calls... what percentage of the donationated dollars do the Missouri State Troopers Association receive....? Betty Kowalewich

Don't forget about Jared Craighead's wife...

Allison Craighead is the current Executive Director of Division of Professional Registration in Economic Development, for those who don't know Professional Registration regulates about 30 professions (Professional Engineers, Appraisers, Dentists etc..) in the State of Missouri, she comes eminently qualified as a former lobbyist for the Nursing Anesthesiologist Association..

I hope everyone is paying attention to the those professional associations Real Estate, Funeral, and Nursing, cause now they really pony up to keep things straight with the Division..

Don't they oversee Realtors too?

So if, for example, someone in the Governor's office, say Jared, suggested to the Realtors that they needed to hire a lobbyist to prevent the Governor's veto, and suggested they hire Jared's old firm, they might have an incentive to be compliant?
