Thanks to Todd, Missouri’s the Laughing Stock of the Nation

There is enough ignorance in Todd Akin to ignorance the world. And, I don’t say that without considerable evidence. Here’s a man who wants to abolish school lunches for kids, a woman’s access to birth control, a rape victim’s right to an abortion, and a senior’s right to Social Security and Medicare, as we know it.

Most recently, when trying to justify his opposition to abortion under any circumstances, Akin replied in a television interview, “First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare." As usual, Todd is unswayed by any studies that don’t support his pre-existing notions, so he apparently ignored the one done by the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that found more than 32,000 pregnancies occur from rape each year.

But the knuckle-dragging Neanderthal didn’t stop there, he lumbered on in his political quest while making more mangled pronouncements. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” If her magic mechanism fails, tough luck, ol’ gal.

And, what-the-hell is a “legitimate” rape, Todd? The word “rape” by definition implies a wrongful, unwanted and forcible act. Is Todd suggesting that there is something that would legitimize such a personal, invasive attack on a woman? But, then, you can't trust a woman to know what is truly rape, which is why we need legislators such as Todd to make those determinations.

As I see it, there is only one explanation for the Congressman’s behavior. I believe a writer from the Steven Colbert show has infiltrated the Akin campaign and is feeding these lines to the gullible GOP candidate. Either that, or nearly half the Missouri electorate has the intelligence of a potted plant. I’m hoping it’s Colbert just pulling our leg … but OMG, what if it isn’t?
