Missouri has bills (don't know if they passed yet) that impose monetary sanctions on employers who hire the undocumented worker.  Well, that's great....but to me the people who wrote those bills have wrote these as a feel good exercise.  There is absolutely no teeth in these bills because in order for an employer to be sanctioned, the federal level BICE unit has to investigate, then enforce the law by monetary sanctions, etc. etc..  So, BICE enforces and finds out someone has hired the undocumented worker.  Big deal.  Federal law specifically states that employers cannot be sanctioned for hiring undocumented workers UNLESS it can be proven that they "knowingly" hired them. 

Everybody skates the issue of the undocumented worker.  If the citizens of this state are truly concerned about the undocumented worker finding gainful employment, then they will utilize a free program (SAVE) when it comes to the hiring process.  This program is part of DHS and employers will know whether or not the person who has completed the form is who he/she says he is and is legally able to work.

I agree with Claire, the only reason the undocumented are here is because they can find work.  Stop them at the gate, use the SAVE program.
