Mark your calendar now to attend the 12th Annual Sifford Scramble, a golf tournament benefiting the Chris Sifford Memorial Scholarship Foundation, on Friday, August 10, 2012.
This year’s scramble features some exciting changes. First, we will be playing at Oak Hills Golf Center, located at 932 Ellis Boulevard in Jefferson City. It was one of Chris’ favorite courses. We also understand that these are tough economic times – and the tournament has been such a success – that we are reducing the entry fee to $400 per team ($100 per individual). A noon shotgun start is scheduled. Your golf entry fee includes green fees, cart fees, beverages, tee prizes, awards, dinner, T-shirt and a raffle drawing for prizes.
The golf tournament continues more than a decade later because Chris was an exceptional person with an indomitable spirit of kindness, of caring and of service to others. He is remembered as a kind-hearted man with an impish grin and mischievous sense of humor, who wore his life’s priorities like a snappy dress shirt he starched and pressed his self. His friends were many and came from a variety of backgrounds, which is why the Sifford Scramble golf tournament is so fun and an annual tradition!
Thanks to the generosity of Sifford Scramble participants, sponsors and other contributors, more than $140,000 has been donated to endowments to fund annual scholarships in Chris’ name at his alma mater, Missouri State University, as well as University of Missouri-Columbia. Three $1,000 scholarship are awarded each year to students majoring in journalism or communications at each university. Chris, a strong proponent of education, would be proud that his friends and family saw fit to raise money in his name to help young Missourians achieve their dream of a college education.
Each year, those of us involved in the planning of the golf tournament are impressed with the turnout of golfers and the generosity of everyone involved. We hope that you will join us again this year.
