Today, Governor Blunt unveiled purported cost savings from the outsourcing of jobs [1] for state building maintenance.
But I bet he didn’t tell the press the rest of the story.
The outsourcing contract was awarded to Johnson Controls, Inc. of
Johnson Controls is a favorite of the Republican Governor’s Association [2] (RGA). Between January 2003 and March 2004, Johnson Controls gave over $81,000 to the RGA. [3] It even sponsors a government building energy efficiency award [4] for the RGA.
In 2004, the RGA gave nearly $2.6 million dollars [5] to Matt Blunt’s gubernatorial campaign.
And Blunt apparently returned the favor to Johnson Controls. He recently awarded them two state contracts (1 [6]& 2 [7]) worth over $3.25 million. Inexplicably, no mention is made of Johnson Controls in the Governor’s press release.
Also, no word on when Governor Blunt will receive his efficiency award from Johnson Controls.
