I am suprised that I haven't seen too much on the blogs about this. Senator John Edwards will be speaking at Reynolds Hall at Mizzou on Tuesday the 18th. Doors will open at 11:30 with his speech at noon. He is launching a nation-wide campaign, known as project opportunity, to fight poverty. You can obtain free tickets at http://www.projectopportunity.org/tour-2005/tickets Everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item as admission. Hope to see some of you there!

John Edwards at Mizzou
I just got back from hearing him speak. The room was electric with the excitement and anticipation. According to John Edwards, and the Census Bureau, something like 73 million people in this country live in poverty, and 13 million of them are children.
He talked about Katrina's aftermath quite a bit and the poor people suffering as a result who couldn't escape Katrina. It was devastating for the poor who always suffer the most.
Many of America's poor are single parent families, people of color and others who do not possess a good education, lack good jobs, and have few prospects to better their lives. There are many Americans who go to bed hungry at night - and we certainly can't count on Congress for any help.
I'm sure the media will give a better account than I have here, but this is basically the gist of it as well as his urging that we demand change from our leaders and speak up about what we know what's going on. Great speech!
