Congratulations Governor

Just when you thought that every "R" was finding a way to distance themself from the Gov., we've received these encouraging words in the form of a letter to the editor:

Renewable fuels

I applaud Gov. Matt Blunt for signing into law House Bill 1270, the Missouri Renewable Fuel Standard Act (7/11, Business). This legislation is a win-win for both Missouri farmers and consumers.

While providing an economic boost for our state’s corn producers, the bill protects consumers by ensuring that distributors are exempt from purchasing gasoline blended with ethanol if the price is higher than unblended gasoline. In addition, the use of ethanol has proven to reduce carbon monoxide emissions, making the air we breathe much cleaner.

Missouri is a national leader in agriculture. It makes complete sense to take advantage of our agricultural strength to answer a portion of our nation’s energy needs. Through increased production of renewable fuels, we will reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil.

Thanks to Gov. Blunt’s strong leadership, our state is now positioned to be a national leader in this exciting arena.

Fred Ferrell

Congratulations Governor Blunt.  Ethanol CAN be good for all Missourians.  I agree (and so does your brother apparently).

But, just when you start thinking that the Governor is finally getting his dues, we realize that the author is none other than Fred Ferrell, Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, doing the back-slapping.  He's an employee of the governor and a recently investigated member of his cabinet (using the catch and release method.)

Oh well, maybe Fred's just paying a little closer attention then the rest of us, right?

Another Missourian -- Trish Vincent -- has been howling her support for the governor as well. In this case, though, support was related to the gov's corrupt fee office schemes. Inked in the state's major dailies, Vincent's ranting letter indicated her contempt for members of the General Assembly who question the activities of his royal youngness and the court players. Ironically, in this case, it was Republican members who were, according to Vincent ill informed about the operations of the offices.  Vincent was even willing to break the Reagan rule -- never speak ill of a Republican. Of course Ms. Vincent would have a reason -- She manages (or doesn't manage, more accurately) said offices.

One has to ask: "Is the governor's office so broken that the only way that they believe they can get positive coverage is a letter-to-the-editor campaign?"

God help us.
