Both Sides of Their Mouths

While I'm not one to give the R's any publicity here or elsewhere, I found this column particularly insightful.

I particularly like the response from Cy Murray, a challenger to Republican State Rep. Dennis Wood:

"I was brought up in the Republican lifestyle. I just feel a lot of the principles that the Republicans stand for I agree with — less government, lower taxes, the strong free enterprise system."

He continues -- when asked why he decided to run against Wood -- with the following rationale:

"After watching my opponent's last four years some of his accomplishments are not all that great for us down here in this area."

[the column continues...] Murray was especially disappointed that Wood hasn't done more to fully fund the state Division of Tourism, which is underfunded by $3 million.

Now if that's not talking out of both sides of your mouth, I don't know what is.

Impetus to run = Smaller Gov't, Lower Taxes

Problem with Opponent = Not enough Gov't tax $ to District.

AHHHH SOOOO

Now the mystery of why all the top republicans DUMPED Dennis comes to light. Dennis did not give the reccomended amount of Alms to the Business sector and the Chamber of commerce....

Granted, Business interests bring in thousands of dollars in local taxes...but those businesses also receive thousands of dollars profit.

Here the rethugs take children off health care roles and give money to businesses instead... and even if Murray is elected....and he will be... cause he has all the money peole and businesses behind him...
our people will not benifit...only businesses will benifit....
I wish people would wake up and vote for the betterment of our population andn our communities...-- just once to see what would happen. Probably we would still be one of the poorest counties in the state and still have minimum wage as law...and learn to exist on the barest minimum to sustain life... but most areas that vote republican are poor areas ... but business is good for the fantasy land owners in the republican controlled aras...and the LAWS are MADE for those business owners who contribute to their campaigns.

Cy Murry and his handlers

Apparently Dennis Wood did not put forth enough effort for Tourism in the Branson, Mo. area. There is an ad in todays edition of the Taney County times for Mr. Murray, with a list of his endorsers. Among those are Joe Dee Herschend and Peter Herschend, from Silver Dollar City. All of his tourism related supporters have apparently cut and run and are now backing Murray. They only contribute when it will show signs of a good financial return to the enterprises. Sorry, Mr. Wood must have turned a deaf ear to his previous handlers, and now they are going to try to hang him out to dry. Mr. Herschend says he blew over a million dollars to keep gambling out of Rockaway Beach, perhaps he should have spent it on advertising. Remember John Ashcroft declared an "Economic Emergency" and pushed for a private four lane highway to West 76 from US 65, which coincidently goes almost to Silver Dollar City. The remaining southern portion of that road from West 76 to South 65, south of Hollister, Mo., just never got around to being built. The Republican Beauraucy takes care of itself!!
