How did you like the Voting process this year?
I don't see a category for Electronic voting here yet. So, until I find other posts to comment to, I'd like to offer my observations. I stood in for the County Chairman of the Democratic Committee to witness the vote counting in Franklin County. Our county had electronic vote counting machines and electronic voting booths. Since I've been in the field of computers for over 30 years, I was eager to see the methodology for insuring vote integrity using these devices. I will describe the whole boring process later in detail (since my notes are not on this computer!) but suffice it to say, I am not impressed. Although I saw no reason to be alarmed, I am disappointed the safeguards are flawed. Our County Clerk was a Republican but I believe Debbie Door is a concientious public servant and had no reason to think she was not doing her best to conduct an orderly election. However, should the Democrats be the majority voters in our county and the County Clerk be a Democrat, I'm sure there would have been a lot of bad press about the conduct of this year's election. I'm all for mail-in ballots now that I've seen our process up close and I will detail my observations soon but I would like to see other comments about these machines in this Web-site because I believe we must get rid of these machines and the temptation to rig an election once and for all. My motivation is pure and simple. I know too much about computers to believe they cannot be tampered with.
